    Default AutoResearch Super Vee Identication

Seems My life has turned into Edmunds cars 24/7!....Not that its a bad thing. As many of you know I have two of the Super Vee's that Don built in the late 70's One is the car that was driven by Stan Fox. The second car has the panel that had the Edmunds tag on it is missing. So I have been trying to identify this car on and off for while. The only clue I have to its identity is the the SCCA number on the role bar. That number is 82 403. The 82 is the Blackhawk Valley Region In Illinois. I talked to a guy that at one point owned four of the seven cars and he says one of them was the first car that Howard Linne bought and Dave Bruns drove. Some have told me that Dale Coyne has it but I have talked to Dale personally and he sold it years ago but does not remember any details. We beleive that this is in fact the first car. I cant think of anyone else that would have had one in that area. If anyone has any information other than what I know would you please let me know...Thanks

Are both of your cars the style of the black Bruns car, ie, with the aluminum sides?

Or do either have the larger sidepods as with the later cars?

In 1981, I lettered one like the 99 car. I could be wrong but have a faint memory it was the original black car raced by Bruns. It was run by Don Snow from Boulder, and I believe it's purchase brokered by mutual friend Bob Schader, also of Boulder. The Snow car was red and almost permanently taken out when a car appeared in my passing lane around a left-hand bend, in the middle of the night going to a National in Big Springs, Texas -- just short of the top of southbound Raton Pass on I-25. I whipped the trailer hard right and the oncoming car took off the left trailer taillight. Car was going the wrong way on an Interstate, and I almost had a heart attack at 20.

That same year, Bob Schader raced a later-style Autoresearch in pro Super Vee, tuned by George Frankenbush. I believe it was also a former Bruns car of white and black. It was also red when I lettered it, and if memory serves came as part of a two-car purchase by Schader for both he and Snow. The car then went to Club racer Joe Scripture for 1982, was painted yellow and with Pearl's Restaurant done in gold leaf (same sign guy).

Joe also lived in Boulder so depending on the date of the Blackhawk race vs. the June Sprints or the RA or Milwaukee pro races, it's conceivable Scriptures may have run Blackhawk as a test race between some other events.
