    Default Watkins Glen

Hi, all. We’re a week out from the second event of the FRP season at Watkins Glen (May 10-12). The weather forecast looks like it should be in early May: Sun, rain, snow, clouds all mixed in a single afternoon. Remember, Watkins Glen has its own ecosystem. It’s May in Upstate NY and if it were sunny and 70 degrees all weekend, no one would remember it. All the usual suspects will be in attendance, plus a few new additions and there will be almost 4 ½ hours of track time available for each run group at one of the great tracks in North America. Entry lists are on Motorsportreg.com now and will be posted on our websites at the beginning of the week. Don’t be shy; come out and play, we will make you welcome. If you have any kind of SCCA (or CASC) license you are good to go.

If someone is thinking about giving the FRP series a try, but doesn’t want to make the investment in the series tire, I will bring some decent used tires to Watkins. They are free to anyone wanting to come run.

    Default Wgi - 2019

It looks like we have a small but strong field for this weekend's race at WGI.

    Dixon - Citation/Zetec
    Goikhberg - Citation/Zetec
    Minor - Citation/Zetec
    Gonzales - Radon/Zetec
    Weitzenhof - VD/MZR
    Jenks - VD/MZR
    Wright - Radon/Zetec
    Guibord - Elan/MZR
    Farmer - Radon/Zetec
    Jacobsen - VD/??

What I find simply fascinating is that 6 of the 10 cars are non-Van Diemens. Have we seen the changing of the guard as we did when the DB1 was escorted out of the top level of competition in FF/F1600? Have Dixon and Minor scared off all of the competition

Of course weather is the great equalizer and, as is usual at the Glen in early May, the skies may be less than hospitable. I am looking forward to Chris Livengood's track reports -

    Good luck to all,

    John

Default Peter Gonzalez and the Agony of Defeat!

The results will show that Misha Goikhberg won on Saturday and Steve Jenks won on Sunday. All that is good and bad about Watkins Glen played out. The star of the weekend was Peter Gonzalez who drove his mighty Radon to the Sunday pole position and lead the entire Sunday race as his chasers all faded and faltered. Well ..... almost the entire race. Peter arrived in the pits as the white flag flew with no electrics. His storybook ending will have to wait for another day and leave Matt as the sole Radon Wet Glen victor.

Other than Bob, Peter may have the most F2000 starts ever. Always smiling, he was still smiling as he said his goodbyes in the paddock afterward. Sometimes moral victories are better than soggy crashed cars. Congrats Peter for a fine drive!

    Congrats Peter!

WG in the rain is no joke, to get pole & lead the race till a mechanical issue took you out, although tough, is very impressive. Great job!

Peter’s qualifying and race drive Sunday was inspiring. Really impressive from both bravery and skill. Some of the toughest conditions I have ever raced. Peter had me completely covered. As the racing saying goes, regardless of final outcome, we all knew Peter G was there.

Man, I'd love to see Peter's onboard. I love the glen in the rain.

Hell, I love any place in the rain, but WGI is the best in any weather. Except snow.

I'm super excited for Peter! He's been maturing as a driver quickly the last two years. His growth has been really impressive. I don't know what he's doing but he has found a ton of pace and confidence.

    Hey guys,
I haven’t been on Apex speed for a while. I was actually going to post some pictures of some pinto parts I have that I am trying to get rid of. And came across all your fine comments. What can I say....we tried something different on the car and it worked like a charm. The car was solid. A Perfect car. A little bit of understeer but other than that it was great. I guess I was trying to redeem myself from last year coming out of the bus stop and ending going into the wall backwards. Anyways detailed notes on the setup we’re taken . See if we get lucky again. Thanks for all your support. And see you guys in Ohio
