Default Hewland Mk 6 differential question

Does anybody know what differential was used in a Hewland MK6? There's quite a bit of backlash in my spider gears and I want to source new thrust washers.

    Default Differential

    Reported to be:

    Zepher Differential
    1957-62 Consul/Zepher 4 cyl. Mk II, III (204)
    Part # 204E4205

used on Mk II Consul- Ford Thames 1000wt or 1500wt Mk III
    211E4200C

If you need the machining drawing, let me know.

    John:

Thanks for the info. Was hoping it was something more common for availability of the washers - conical ones in particular. If your drawings indicate washer dimensions that would be most helpful; I still remain foolishly optimistic they might be somewhat "stock" items.

    Default The usual suspects...

Taylor-Race, Williams, Pegasus & Hewland Classic... all list washers for the spider gears:

    Taylor-Race-

    https://taylor-race.com/product/wash...y-differential

    https://taylor-race.com/product/spid...y-differential

    Pegasus-

    https://www.pegasusautoracing.com/pr...asp?RecID=4057

you'll have to call to be sure that they'll work for the mk6.

You can also google "consul zepher differential", lots of parts houses & specialist shops in the UK pop up.

I'll give them a call just to be sure, but the "early" and "late" style they're referring to are all for Mk.8 & 9. Still, worth the call. Probably going to end up hunting these down from specialists.

Call made to WRD . . . early style is correct; apparently lots of fretting done for no good reason! Gears are different, but washers not. Thanks for helping.

    Andrew

Early style will be a smaller ID for the cross pin
We make the spider gear thrust washer in .015 .020 .025 and the standard .032
This will give you many options to fine tune the diff .
