Round 6 - Sunday, May 14th 2017 - Happy Easter!
Qualifying once again was dominated by the #77 of Alex Mayer, taking pole position for Round 6, followed by the #9 of Jason Slahor, and the #93 of Stephen Hamilton taking the third starting spot.
As the NAF1000 cars approached the starter stand, the #77 of Alex Mayer timed the jump perfectly and when the flag flew, Mayer had put three cars from other classes between himself and the rest of the NAF1000 field. Lap after lap, Mayer battled wheel to wheel with a car in a different class, ultimately ending in a crunched-in sidepod for Mayer, and a bent front wing for the other car.
Behind the damaged car of Mayer, the #9 of Jason Slahor was unable to take advantage due to being in the crosshairs of the #2 American Racer Tire - Suzuki-powered - Firman of Zane Gibbs. Slahor and Gibbs were set to have a great battle headed into the final laps, when a lapped car from another class was caught in between the two, ensuring back-to-back second place finishes for the #9 of Jason Slahor. The #2 of Zane Gibbs would come home third, and take home the Sunoco Hard Charger Award, coming from the back. Rounding out the podium for Round 6 of the 2017 North American Formula 1000 Championship presented by American Racer Tire, was the Wilwood Brakes Tough Break Award winner, the #93 CSI Leasing - Suzuki-powered - JDR of Stephen Hamilton.
