Default Aim USB download cable? Make one?

Can these be made? I'm tired of spending $70 on what I know can't cost more than $8 to them. Just curious if it can be easily made with a 3 pin aim connector and a generic USB cord? Thanks.

Sure, you can.

I make up standard USB type-B port bulkhead connectors -- then you just use a common USB cable to connect to the car.

Unfortunately, I can't source the parts for anything close to $8...

The AIM cables are costly. But they don't sell hundreds of thousands and making cables can be expensive when only making small runs. So they need to make a living while supporting a niche market.
That said, I have purchased the Binder connectors and made all the cables for my own EVO4. It's the type of thing I do a lot of so it was only logical to me.
If you slice up a standard USB cable, use only Data+(green) and Data-(white) and ground. The pinout for all the connectors are in the manuals. Binder connectors are not inexpensive but well made.
When you're done figuring it all out and pay shipping for one connector, you might just realize $65 is a fair price!
The bulkhead USB ports David Ferguson makes up are also very nice and well worth it.

Buy AiM part number V02573030 (comes with the new dashes) for and connect it to the USB cable in your MXL harness. Then you can use a regular USB cable to download (same one as your Smartycam).

Those Binder connectors are like $12 a pop and were a bit of a pain to put together last time I did. $80 from a commercial company is a pretty reasonable deal. That said, if it's a 4 pin connector I've got a couple spares kicking around that I can put on the end of a USB cable if you want. If so shoot me a message and we can work something out. Or buy the bulkhead version, because that thing is sweet.

I just buy the Binder cables and then mate them to a usb cable. Takes like 20 minutes of soldering to do two or three cables. I have hundreds of usb cables lying around so that part is free.
