    Default Lola T340 fabrication dimensions

    Have finally received my dismantled T340 from the US.

    The roll bar has already been cut out and modified, but I need to replace with UK MSA certified hoop. I want to add a front of dash hoop as well, but need the windscreen (missing) to measure for clearance then I can get both rolled. The UK supplier of Lola panels wants £340 for a screen! Early days to buy and fit a screen and have lying around so bound to get damaged etc. Has anyone got dimensions of a front hoop that will tuck in below the screen but obviously sit higher than the dash support frame?

    I also need the dimensions of the rear gearbox beam/wishbone plates at the top of the rear box uprights as these have been cut out. See attached photo of gray chassis I stole off the internet for reference. The upper squarish plates with through bushes for whis bone and shock mount

    Any help info greatfully received.

    Thanks

    BRM,

    Can you post some better pictures of the rear of the frame that you bought? I can't quite see how much has been removed from the photo.

    The motor is out of my 340 right now and I don't believe that section of the frame has been modified to fit the A12 Nissan motor. I can take some pics this weekend if that would help.

    As for the windscreen, might you be able to find someone local that you could make a rough cardboard template off of to use while fabbing the new front hoop?

    Thanks it was TW that quoted me £340 for the screen. I will try the US compeny you have suggested. Have also put body work I. Chassis and realised I can get a 9 inch radius roll hoop in front of the dash i.e. Behind the dash and still fit the body. Regards Ralph

    Default Another UK Lola T340

    [SIZE=3]Hi there

    I’ve only just picked up this post and might be able to help. I went down the same route as you about 2 years ago and imported a T340 from the US. Unlike yours my car was complete and looked great but the chassis had suffered lot of accident damage and had some poor repairs and “safety” modifications. I’m fortunate that I live just 6 miles from Huntingdon the former home of Lola and more importantly home of Arch Motors & Fabrication the spaceframe specialists.
    I know the guys at Arch and always intended taking the chassis to them for the roll bar modifications. The quote for the repair of the chassis left me in a dilemma, whether to part out or rebuild in the end Arch offered to build new chassis for the price of repairing the old one, yes it was that bad. I’ve discovered that the T340 is not the best FF to choose to rebuild in the UK as yours is only the fourth in the country meaning used spares are virtually non-existent. I was lucky in that I managed to borrow the chassis of one of the other cars and use that as a pattern for mine. See below

    Looking at your questions I can probable get you some information on the material spec and design for my extended roll bar which meets UK MSA regulations. I can also supply you with a drawing of the rear pick-up points. The windscreen looks simple but is in fact double curvature so not that easy. I work for a company that restores historic aircraft and last year one of the guys made a jig for making Spitfire canopies so I’ll see what he can come up with.

    Thanks Martin I will be in touch, I have found enough parts to mock up engine block and gearbox so I can reverse jig the support beam, would be interested in roll hoop dimensions, new chassis in your photos looks good, have you retained the old chassis ? Is the front pedal bulkhead solid, and are you interested in carving it up the one on mine has been butchered on the near side. I can refabricate but a cut part may be easier to fix? On another note what seat did you fit ? If you are in Cornwall this summer pop over!

    My T340 recently got damaged so I am taking the opportunity to repair some old damage from the US and am remaking the whole rear end of the chassis. When you say you have drawings of the rear pickup points, do these include dimensions?
    We have another car that we could get dimension off, but there is no guarantee that this is correct either, so it would be great to have the original design dimensions.
