    Default Daytona 24 2016

Gotta say over the years the quality of the online broadcast has gotten much better. Been watching it on the PC for about 18 hours now. Rather enjoy the casualness and lack of extreme polish of the on-line announcer blokes.
...and, online, no interruption of advertising.

Rand has only left his PC the last 18 hours to let the dogs out...

Watching on the TV in a hotel on Daytona Beach - can just about hear the track from here. This is as close as I want to get to that place for another 12 months! At least I slept in a bed last night I suppose.

Yes, it was frustrating to say the least. Quite why there wasn't a full course yellow is a mystery. The Delta Wing is one of those love or hate it cars, but the fan reaction at the track is always overwhelmingly supportive.

Default tough for the delta wing

Not a huge fan of the Delta wing but was very impressed with the car's performance and Katherine Legge's driving. Definitely a car for that track. Created interest away from the usual Corvette's, Porsches, and Aston's, etc. Kind of lost interest in the race after it was knocked out. Better luck next time.

    Default Great weekend

Rented an rv with some friends and saw 19 hours of action. The cautions break it up into 10 or so sprints. Some insanely long stop and go penalties. Didn't get the gist of what the crime was. Facilities are top shelf

watched most of the TV coverage. the penalties were pretty much related to pit speeding (at entry for most) or running the red light at exit. I don't understand the red light at exit, since there is a blend line onto the track and you can get pretty much up to speed by the end of it.

the facility is impressive - I was there a couple of months ago for a track day. Lots of upgrades since my last trip a couple years ago.

The red light on the end of pit lane is a function of the whole Yellow/pace car deal. They hold cars on pit lane during some parts of the yellow to allow the pace car with the field to get throught T1 so the cars on pit lane will move into the rear of the field.

Also every car in a given class that finds themselves in between the class leader and the pace car is then given a wave around.

Also during the yellow, only certain classes are allowed to pit on certain pace car laps.

Thus, what could easily be a "hot pick-up" on the track turns into a 12 minute yellow period.

Give then credit though... the 'pros' in mixed class high speed racing for 24 hours have far less car-to-car contact than the average Major open wheel session.

    Getting back on topic...

It was nice to see Connecticut's own Scott Sharp (Son of SCCA champ Bob Sharp) take the overall win.
Also that was a fun battle between the two Corvettes at the end. Although, I'm a little disappointed by the tap & pass of the 'Vette on the Porsche.
Finally, very cool that a JDC Motorsports prepared PC won it's class.

Didn't Scott win a Trans Am championship as well?

He has won at most everything he raced in.
