    Default Lug nut help

Sorry for the bother but need some input from the list. Restoring my MK10 LeGrand. I bought a set of used Panasport wheels that had been used on a unknown brand FF. My LeGrand hubs are typical with 3/8 x 24 studs. I bought a complete set of new lug nuts from Pegasus. During mock up, I found that the Pegasus nuts with the correct thread 3/8 x 24, fit too far down in the Panasport wheel steel insert. In simple terms, the lug nuts now use a 11/16 socket, if the lug nuts were just a bit larger externally, say using a 3/4 in socket, they would be a much better fit for the inserts in the wheels. That make sense?? Correct thread just need to be a bit larger. Source ideas??

    Mike,
Have you tried contacting Neil Porter? I'm pretty sure he has the right ones.

I've found these folks to have an amazing inventory or lug nuts and also to be very, very customer friendly.

    Default Now wheel stud help

So got these really great wheel nuts from Porter...........now I need about 1/2 inch longer wheel studs. I have the stock early Triumph parts right now. 3/8 x 24 studs that are 1.400 in overall length. Need 2.000 to be safe. Tried Dorman, no luck. Any ideas?

    Default Wheel stud

    Thanks Dave

I called Mini Mania this morning. Problem is the knurling diameter of my Triumph wheel stud is 0.522, far bigger than the Mini parts. Still searching

I don't know if this will help or not but I was poking around at Pep Boys a month or so ago and was surprised by the amount of different size wheel studs they had in stock. There had to be close to 100 of them. Might be worth a look.

why did changing lug nuts hex diameter make your studs too short?

Still have the same amount of thread engagement, Right?

If so why the need for longer studs, unless one feels more comfortable with stud sticking out of the end of the nut is the reason.

    Default Wheel stud

Steve, that is a consideration when I think about it. The nuts will have full engagement on the
stud. The ends will be about 1/4 inch recessed in the nut. I could have the nuts milled down a bit just so they are flush........which I think is more about not having headaches in a tech inspection line. As someone had suggested, leave one nut off to show that they are fully engaged. Easy to go to a 7/16 stud, but then I am changing all and returning parts when really not necessary.

    Default Wheel stud

Clarification, the studs will have full engagement although just short of the top of the new wheel nut

Try APT in Riverside.....Dave Anton might give you a lead if he doesn't have what you need.

Most of the 3/8" hardware has not much more than .385" of so of spline.

also Winners Circle in Ohio ?? Also take a look at ARP in Ventura................

I woudn't thin the nuts. Should be 2 threads showing at least. Good luck.

    Default Just a thought

If I understand correctly and its not a safety concern, turning down the nuts would reduce unsprung weight and rotating mass. Maybe make the tec guy happy too.
A photo of mounted wheel with lugnuts would help. J
