A great facility and we loved racing there, but sad to say in the middle of no where

A friend on mine once told me, "you never what to be the first investor in a race track".
I think he spoke from experience.
Sad news to hear.
I didn't realize it was losing so much money per year, but I guess that shouldn't really come as any surprise. There is really no escaping the fact that the best way to make a small fortune in racing is to start with a larger one. And in LHM's case, they spent $100 million.

There has been a lot going on within that company this year, not just with the race track. Two of his son's stepped down from their positions. I'm not sure what it actually stems from, but a lot of corporate movement. I heard one rumor that Berkshire Hathaway may be buying the whole thing. They (BH) just recently bought out the VanTuyl group of 75 plus dealerships. Gail is really the shot caller , ( LHM's) widow.

It was a large facility with tremendous overhead to cover.
There was no reason to build a 4.5 mile track - other than to be the largest in the US
The family is making a sound business choice and is basically allowing the county to seek a new operator for the track. It is a far better choice for all concerned than just trying to bleed as much cash out of operations as possible

Very sad news.
Those of us that got to run the long track a few years ago in the F1000 series had a rare opportunity. Good times for sure!
NASA has had some deep roots at Miller, this has got to hurt them.

Great facility, best garages ever, nice safe track layout, unfortunately located in an area of the Country that really doesn't care about road racing. It was built because Larry Miller was a real car fanatic and once he died the family wasn't into the racing and it had to be a black hole absorbing money. I hope it can be resurrected by someone or some group. Not sure if anyone can generate enough events that draw crowds.
