Dorsey continued to amaze us all by telling us how the FA cars just push a button on the steering wheel to shift......

Aren't some of the newer 016 Swifts paddle shift?

I would guess that very few of the cars out there today were paddle shifters, but what do I know?

They gave SM a green when there were three obvious columns and a huge gap about 15 rows back.

I think the 1st 6 rows of the SM start were pretty even, the other 48 cars, eh...so what?

I thought I remember reading last year, in a report on the hopefully-temporarily defunct Pro Atlantic Championship at Road Atlanta, that they were working on installing a no-lift, paddle-shift system on Keith Grant's Swift?

None of the 14's or 16's had paddle shift as OEM......some drivers adapted systems later on....ie: Geartronics, ProShift, Shiftec......pneumatic or electric. Much like the FB folks.

    Default Engines

Anyone know what engines the top runners had?

Sedat clearly had a big horsepower advantage based on his trap speeds and the way he pulled away on the straights.

It reminded me of the turbo DSR a year ago.

You are correct - I wrote that.

Some of the 014s (both Grant cars last year in the pro series) had a paddle shifter system retrofitted.

From what I hear it is a 1600 MZR built from a 2.0l but who knows.

    Oh, good.

Another 'engine of the month' for FA.

    First 1600cc Toyota 4AG.
    Then 1800cc Toyota.
    Then 1600cc Toyota 4AG again.
Now 1600cc Mazda MZR (if that's what it was).

I hear there's only one engine choice in FE, Paul, and everyone's engine makes the same power, +/- 3 hp.

The RT-41 would be a killer FE.

Do you suppose anyone will notice?

I saw Arnie in T5 after the race. He said that the engine was a Toyota 1600.

If they don't put in some better FA engine regulations (OEM type engine supplied in car) FA is going to be quite small at the Runoffs next year. Costs more to be competitive in FA at the runoffs than it does to race an Indy Car!

Don't you have to declare on the entry form what engine you have?

The cars have different weights based on engine. Or, is that not 'public' info?

The tech sticker also lists weight. Usually you can guess the engine from the weight if you're familiar with the engine table.

    Paul,

I think your RT41, trimmed out, would be fully competitive at R Amer......wish you had made the trip.

BTW, we made a mock-up of a 2.0 MZR and JFR conversion for my 41. It was too pricey for me, so I ended up selling the car rather than dealing with the ever changing engine table.

    Regards,
    Bill
