Is e85 legal for use in FV racing, especially at Nationals???

    Thanks!

E85 will destroy your fuel cell

e85 will not pass the standard fuel tests. But, on the other hand i haven't seen SCCA do a standard fuel test in a while.

It will dissolve your fuel cell, unless your cell was built for e85.

Yep on the cell. But with tuning you can squeak out another few HP

Probably also need a much bigger fuel cell. Energy density of E85 is much less than gas so you have to pump significantly more fuel. You will need another 20-25% capacity in your fuel cell to make the end of the race.

Forced Induction LOVES alcohol as it cools much better than gas and thus you can run higher compression ratio's. Mileage is poor compared to gas so a larger fuel tank is defintely needed. One other negative - harder to start when cold.

High compression, more advance and larger jets.
New cell with material that can withstand E85.

All fuel lines and any rubber in the carb (o-rings, gaskets etc) will degrade quickly. Usr only SAE J9 fuel hose.

Since we cannot legally change compression ratios, it is likely you would get nothing more than insignificant gains. of course, if you're willing to run illegal fuel, maybe illegal heads are a logical progression. LOL

So, in short, the answer is no. Not legal. (or worth it)
