    Default Track Testing at TGPR

The KBS Mk.5 has arisen from the dead with many improvements including an all new rear axle assembly. Dan McMahan has been thrashing with Clint's help for many months now to get the seriously pranged Mk.5 running again. A much improved rear clip replaced the original prototype rear clip and saved about 40 lbs. Clint spent several track sessions on Saturday getting the Mk.5 dialed in and by Sunday he had the Mk.5 within a couple of tenths of Clint's Mk.8's weekend lap times with both just a few tenths behind Clint's F600 track record. George Fox and Jason Fitzpatrick were also there getting the cobwebs out and comfortable running again. The Mk.5 is now available for rental. The Scorpion for you bigger drivers is next on the schedule and will be running soon. Photos will be posted soon.

The testing was done during a SCCA Time Trial Level 3 Track Trial at TGPR. TGPR is a 1.4 mile motorcycle track located near Anniston AL.

Clint did a 59.801 which was a bit off his record of 59.110

    Dan did a 1:08.762

    Jason Fitzpatrick turned 1:04.079

    George Fox dropped a 1:09.314

To put the times in perspective, the FM record is 1:00.082, PrehiSTOHRic DSR record is 1:00.770, FS is 1:00.435, FV is 1:09.535, FF is 1:05.646, CF is 1:03.487,

Overall track record is GEorge Bowland's AMOD HillClimb Special at 58.763

In SEDIV, we have a number of TT Level 3 events this year at Road Atlanta, Barber and TGPR. Low key events that offer the road racer an excellent low cost opportunity for testing. Compared to a Friday TnT at the same cost, you get double the track time. At TGPR, we get 2.5 hours of track time. Road Atlanta and Barber are sharing the track with road races so the track time runs from 1:15 to 1:30 respectively.

    Hey Craig,

Several years ago I (old guy) ran low 56's in testing my Ralt RT41/Cosworth FA. Keith Roberts also ran 57's IIRC in his Fhoenix FB.......These times are certainly not official.

Also My son qualified at 59.5 Pole time in The SKUSA 125 shifter Pro class at the Long Track Nationals, and he ran 56's in a Stockman 250 Superkart with RS250 power.

    Just for comparison.....

    Best regards,
    Bill Gillespie

Anyone remember what year the TGPR track do-over to the current configuration was completed?

03-04 rings a bell......track drives differently, but times are about the same....go figure....it's also a wee bit longer now......I always thought it was a good, safe place to test.

    Regards,
    Bill

I think the track was reformatted in 2006 since I have records on the new configuration starting in 2007. We have been running there for many years.

State came in and said that they were goig to reroute Route 21. The old configuation would have lost its saety margin so the track had to be moved away from the "new" road. Of course, Route 21 has not been changed yet.

The new track is a bit longer but times are similar since the new track flows better and is a bit faster.
