    Default Light Battery for FIT

    OK
I need a battery for a FIT powered FF with high amperage alternator.

    Lithium Ion?
    Lithium Ferrous?

    Recommendations including suppliers please.

    Thanks

Note: I asked this in a thread that came up when I searched the topic but it was buried in FB carbuilding section, so perhaps more commentary here. Thanks

I used an 18AH Shorai lithium in a vee and it worked great over a 3day event without a recharge or jumper battery. $180 and $75 for the charger from SR Racing. 2.1 pounds.

Thanks Bob. I can buy those locally and that is an option. I'm interested on their lifeline with the FIT alternator. I've had two Braille batteries go soft after about 10 weekends, which apparently is not uncommon on the FIT application.

Greg, I'm interested in hearing recommendations, too. I killed my battery recently - No fault of the Fit - I just left my master switch on for a long time (which means my dash was on a long time).

In my case I don't need a superlight (expensive) battery since I'm near minimum weight.

Up until this past weekend I was all smug about not needing a jump plug on my formula car (with alternator), but couldn't get my car started for session #1 on Friday, so I plan to add one.

Russ, Yes that seems to happen occasionally. When that happens, I much prefer to recharge with a charger than let the high amperage of the FIT altenator recharge the battery.

    Good point.

I'm running the smaller HPD racing alternator. Is it "high amperage"? Or does that only apply to the regular street car size alt?

I believe the small racing one is half the output of a street Honda alternator, but still higher than the wheelchair batteries like.

    Default battery

Im working on installing my fit into my 99 VD FF. I would also like to know what the other fit engine guys are using at this time. I will need to order a battery in a month or so.

    Thanks

FYI the Ballistic Lithium batteries that Pegasus sells seem to be limited to about 14.4 charging voltage. http://www.ballisticparts.com/downlo...structions.pdf

Edit to add: However, this really doesn't make sense since the primary market for the batteries is in motorcycles with alternators. Therefore, beats me.

If so, an alternator may not be appropriate.
