Default Great news!!

This is AWESOME!!!

Perhaps now there will be a change in the "restaurant" at the track.....no more "McMosport"!! I have been at a lot of tracks but the food at Mosport has always been sub-par. Ya, and for those of you who have not attended our track, the "McMosport" is real! It is just not good !

Seriously, there has been a need for infrastructure development at Mosport for a long time. There is just not enough revenue coming in for all the things that are needed. If a change of name will provide the $$$ for new food, good showers and washrooms.....well I guess I am OK with that!

Besides, if you think I will call it anything else but Mosport, you are nuts!

As it is, I can't wait to try the new tunnel. No more waiting to drive across the track between sessions or waiting till the last race is run on Sunday afternoon so I can leave the track. I understand that the new tunnel will allow tractor trailers to travel in both directions at the same time. The old tunnel would accept cars and pickups only...and was a single lane. So small that gynecologists were uncomfortable!

I hear you Tom. Obviously investestment for the future is essential. Surely this means higher profile events will be promoted also. My only concern is that some of the regional events and pre-event practice days will suffer as the track costs inevitably go up over the next few years?

Default My View

Tony, in my previous life (president of CRDA) I was intimately involved with Harvey's team and was privy to what things cost to run a track. Rest assured that a healthy track is the best way to keep individual racers' costs down. Professional racing revenue (camping, ticket sales, merchandise) will provide the money needed for the track....not by raising the rental costs for track and testing days. Besides, that is what the development track is for....

I see an influx of development funding to improve facilities as key to keep the place open and prospering. If there is not an increase in venues/attendance, the track will become a housing tract.....guaranteed

All good news.

So now I’ll have to ask for a McCanadian McTire McMotorsport McPark burger, that’s bit of mouthful, even if the burger isn’t.

Sadly all the major road races in Canada take place on temporary circuits. Your average Canadian is unaware that one of North America’s best circuits is only an hour from Canada’s biggest city.

If the name-change makes more people aware of Mosport, I mean Canadian Tire Motorsport Park, and brings them into the sport; then that’s good for us all.

I agree... but it kind of has to be done... and as Tom said, I'm still going to call it Mosport
The problem is, what you saw back in the 70's and 80's, is what you will see if you go there now. Other than the safety improvements to the track itself when Panoz bought it, there hasn't been much else done to the rest of the track and it's facilities.

Edit: Well, apart from the more recent addition of safety fencing which ruins the view for spectators in the good corners...

Hopefully the money CTC paid for the naming rights will filter down and help keep track time reasonable, as well as improve the facilites.

It will always be Mosport...

Is there a more appropriate sponsor for Canadian motorsport? Whether you race bikes, boats, trucks, cars, oval, road, drag ..... a trip to CTC is on almost every Canadian racer's "to do" list before each event. Since moving to the US, I have never found a US counterpart (no pun intended) and often end up stopping at CTC Bowmanville on the way to Mosport.

CTC is a much better sponsor then Rogers or Air Canada from a relation point of view. When you look around most places are being renamed for coporate $'s & what is wrong with that if it brings value?

If CTC is willing to put their name on it I am sure they will not want to be associated with a run down facility, it is great to see the interest in the track overall.

Now maybe we can get Mr. Lube or another large coporate companty to put their name on Shannonville & have some facility upgrades
