    Default 2010 FB Runoffs

The runoffs are approaching quickly. We are currently sitting on 9 entries, and I'm a little disappointed that the inaugural F1000 Runoffs race isn't drawing greater attendance.

I understand the problems and hassle associated with going to the Runoffs, but this is our first one as a class. Let's show our fellow competitors that FB is a strong class that is here to stay and let's put on a race where spectators wish that they were participating.

Is there anyone planning to attend that hasn't registered, or is there anyone that we can push off the fence?

How about any spectator who can present a valid driver's license gets to take your paddleshifting wondercar for a 2 lap jaunt on one of the test days? If that won't bring people to the class, I don't know what will.

Default One National to get in

I'll be getting my entry in about a week from now.

I need one more National finish to qualify, headed to Utah for the Dbl @ Miller next week. My crew guy (Tony) had a health issue (valley fever) earlier this year so we missed almost all of the West Coast races and the June Sprints.

Looks like we have a championship now. 11 cars entered and soon to be 12 when Gary registers. More FB's then FA's.

I think Belling is still planning to attend also.

13 FBs and about 25 cars on track at the same time. That should work ok.

    Default Schedule Change

It's great to see us up to 11 entries, and it would be great to get a few more. The deadline before late entry fees is this Friday August 27.

Also, there was a schedule change that impacts us. Our sessions are now:
    Monday Q1 2:30
    Tuesday Q2 5:30
    Wednesday No sessions
    Thursday Q3 10:30
    Saturday Race at 11:30

Russ now you could come, test some over the weekend, run Q1 and Q2, go to work for 3 days (Wed, Thurs and Fri), and come back on Saturday for the race! Why not?

Pancea, Palmer, M. Belling, and Archer have also likely qualified (I didn't check for two starts in their division).

I agree with Jeremy, there will only be one chance to go to the first F1000 Runoffs and this is an important race for attracting people to our class.

    Default not this year

Dad Archer here, unfortunately Taylor is back to University with a very heavy schedule, that combined with every other racers issue you could imagine will preclude him from running. We are going to be watching closely as it should be an unreal race.

Have a great time and put on a show that will show what a great class and group FB is.

    Default Party

The sports racers party will be on Wednesday night and the FB crowd is welcome to attend. Location will be at my trailer if all goes well on the grass inside of turn 3. If not we may be moving but we will be sure to let everyone know if it moves.

The F1000 field is now at 12 entries with the addition of the Philly Motorsports DB-X that will be driven by Florida driver Tom Beattie. If I'm not mistaken, this will also be the first national race for the Philly car. Good luck to both!

Not only will this be the first National race for the DB-X but it will be the first time for the car at RA and the first time for the FB Honda powerplant at a National. I have not seen the car in the flesh yet nor have I ever turned a wheel at RA (except for a bicycle wheel while watching Mark Donohue win a race in the Sunoco 917 Porsche).

Is this going to be FUN..or What?

    Thank You Sal!

    I can't wait....

Any advice would be most welcome.

Tom, best of luck to you and Sal. I'm sure everything will go smoothly. What could go wrong? :-).

I hope all of the FB competitors have a great time. I wish I could be there to witness all the adventures. We'll just have to be thankful for the good coverage the event gets (online timing, etc.), as well as Mike B's great reporting.

It's hard to figure out who to root for. I guess I hope it's a SEDiv guy, but I'll be happy for everyone who gets a satisfying finish.

Too bad there will not be a Phoenix in the mix at the Runoffs. Keith Roberts had his Phoenix at Barber this month and he was really quick.....setting a new FB lap record in the Sunday race. Past lap record holders at Barber include some uber-fast drivers, such as Brandon Dixon and Glenn Cooper.

I'm bored and riding shotgun right now on our way up to test, so I will offer the first prediction:

if Brandon and Niki both make it to the finish, then they will be 1-2. Not sure who will be first. Also, it will take 2:07's to be up front.

I'll be heading for the track in the morning and bringing some extra F1000 T-shirts ('09 and '10 versions) and decals. Stop by the paddock of Dan Robinson and Tom Beattie in the West Paddock, space 55E to buy a shirt or just say "hey."

I wonder what that project cost, and if we'll hear what the HP advantage is (if any).

Is JR the car owner? Or hired driver? He tried a turbo DSR at the Runoffs not long ago, right?

I wonder if this is the first time he has run with it. I seem to remember several people talking about the different (loud) sound of his engine the last couple of races. Hmmm.

    This is a factory car.

Wayne told me the BMW engine does not cost much more then the GSXR and will be offered to Stohr customers.

I recall seeing a horsepower graph for the BWM here recently - I think it had 10 to 15 more hp thsn the GSXR.

It was a gsxr at the sprints. It did sound weird. It idled pretty high with a big lope and climbed the hill out of 5 great. Maybe it wasn't running right? They were not on the pace.

Who knows why people make the changes they do for the runoffs?

The numbers I have for the engines are (someone correct me if I'm wrong):

    BMW 195 HP

    2009/2010 Suzuki: 191 HP

    2007/2008 Suzuki: 185 HP

These are what I have found to be the published raw HP numbers. These are not the ones that George Dean gets on his dyno.

I believe the BMW weights more than the Suzuki, with the 2009/2010 Suzuki being the lightest of the three.

With HP and weight taken into account I would imagine that there would be practially no difference in overall performance between the BMW and the 2009/2010 Suzuki. For all we know the 2009/2010 Suzuki might even have an edge over the BMW. Nothing is certain until they race on track against each other. There is also a perfected dry sump design for the Suzuki. Wet Sumps worry me.

It will be interesting to see the battle between the two (BMW vs. 2009/2010 Suzuki). This is what makes this class so much more interesting than boring ol' FC.

One thing we did discover at the last race was that due to a fault in the wiring harness we were running 5 HP down all season on where we should be with the 2009/2010 Suzuki. With it fixed things should get much more interesting.

Here is the dyno sheet for Mr. Dean's post # 79 from this thread.

    http://www.apexspeed.com/forums/show...t=41603&page=2

Looks to be nearly 20 HP over the 2009 GSXR and with a very broad peak.

Any guesses as to what 20 HP and broader HP and torque curves translates into lap times at RA?

Seen that graph. It seems that the gap shouldn't be that great. Not when you base things on the published HP numbers so I wondering what causing it.

Published HP numbers is what is causing it. The factories are in a HP battle, numbers tend to get exagerated from time to time. Apparently the factory Suzuki numbers are slightly inflated. Not unlike the Yamaha R6 tach issue a few years back. HP sells liter bikes. Technology/RPMS sells the middleweights.

What? A 20 HP exageration? Cmon! Gotta be something else. If Suzuki exagerated their numbers by that much most of their engineers would have to commit banzai or something.

I can see it now "So sorry Boss-san but we lie about real horsepower number..."

Maybe the Suzuki engine used for that graph had some issue. Hard to believe there would be that much difference. I know we had at least a 5 HP loss on the engine we used this season due to a fault in the wiring.

Well their tachs and speedos are known to be much more optimistic than their automotive cousins. I don't know about a 20HP exaggeration. However, Yamaha claimed their 2006(?) R6 redlined at 17500, it was later discovered that many tachs were 1000-2500 rpms "optimistic", Yamaha also offered to buy back all affected R6's from any unhappy owners.

Yamaha also grossly exaggerated the HP claims on the VMax back in the mid 80's which started this whole ball rolling. Those claims were more than 20% optimistic.

Here's an interesting read from a dyno manufacturers perspective.
