Does anybody know much about Hewland MK 7 transmissions?
Does anybody know much about Hewland MK 7 transmissions?
After MK 6 and before MK 8......Sorry, couldn't resist!
On the serious side race-cars.com says it is a rare 6 speed version of the MK 4 - made for 1000cc F2 (?) Hewland site says the same thing.....

Or call Taylor Race Engineering and ask them, they'll probably know.......
I had one, or what could have been one, the bearing carrier anyway, and assorted inside bits that didn't fit anything else. Basically it put a first gear where reverse was (modified first/reverse hub), so a different layshaft, a normal 2/3 shift fork (from a five speed) with a dog ring for 1/2 on a slightly modified shaft, but otherwise very similar to what we all know and love. I think that it would make all 6 gears very usable, rather than the awkward pull down into first for a normal MK five speed. Ideal for your 1,000 cc SCA screamer with a 700 rpm powerband...
