Default Vintage Ford takes King of the Hill

A 1970 Caldwell D9 took the OA win at the Wolf Ridge Hillclimb in western NC last weekend. With the winged hillclimb special of BBR racing up in Pennsylvania, it left the door cracked for a old Formula Ford to have a shot at first OA. Against a field of 50 including 4 FF1600s, a FC, and a former Chimney Rock record holder, we got lucky and took my first King of the Hill win in over 12 years of SCCA hillclimbing. I think Ray Caldwell and all the former Caldwell group would be proud. here are the final results and a video from Saturday: http://www.ccrscca.com/results/wrhc08_raw.htm http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EVUZCQb3ulA

There are vintage classes in SCCA hillclimbing now. I run in VO or vintage openwheel. The biggest difference is that tires are free. I use Hoosier R25Bs. I wish more drivers would try it. The sport does have quite a history with Giant's Despair in Pennsylvania having celebrated a 100 year anniversary a couple of years ago. Many legends (Shelby, Donahoe, Penske, etc) ran hills back in the 50s and 60s as some venues were a part of the SCCA National Championship.
