Indianapolis, IN (November 7, 2006)- Rising star Cole Morgan will be testing a Grand-Am KONI Challenge Series Ford Mustang FR-500C for Blackforest Motorsports Group November 18-19 at Carolina Motorsports Park in Kershaw, South Carolina.
Morgan, from Lighthouse Point, Florida won the 2006 Cooper Tires Formula Ford 2000 Series Gold Cup Championship. Cole dominated his class, winning eleven out of twelve FF2000 races while capturing ten pole positions. In addition to his professional racing accomplishments this past year, he also competed in SCCA Club Racing. Cole won the title of 2006 SCCA Southeast Division National Champion in his Swift DB-6. He finished out his open-wheel season at the SCCA National Championship Runoffs at Heartland Park in Topeka, Kansas last month. Narrowly missing the pole in Formula Continental, he finished second for the race.
Blackforest Motorsports Group is based in Deland, Florida and is coming off a strong season last year in the Grand-Am KONI Challenge Series. In 2005, they delivered the first win for the Mustang FR-500C at Daytona International Speedway. In 2006, they had five top five finishes and eleven top ten finishes, and are looking strong for next year. Blackforest has announced that they will field four cars in the Grand-Am KONI Challenge Series in the GS class with the Mustang FR-500s in 2007
After enjoying success in open-wheel at such an early point in his career, Cole has decided to try his hand behind the wheel of something different. "Tom Nastasi called earlier this year and made me an offer that I couldn’t refuse. We had been talking for a while about doing something, but I wasn’t really sure what it would be. I am ecstatic to have such an amazing opportunity with a great team. I am looking forward to driving the Mustang. The team knows these cars very well and hopefully I can produce very good results," told Morgan
Nastasi is understandably optimistic about the young driver. He said, “I have known Cole for a few years now and have seen him drive since the beginning of his career. He is a very quick and very mature driver for his age and I think that will show during the test, I think he would be a great addition to the team. We still have to sort a few things out for next year, but I hope Cole can be a part of Blackforest Motorsports.”
