I am getting a new fuel cell for my Titan Mk 6. What is the deal with the aluminum container that you can get for the fuel cell? Is it required? Is it just additional protection?

If you are racing in SCCA club races, a metal container is required to enclose the rubber bladder.
If memory serves me right it must be 0.060" aluminium or 0.040 steel.

The metal container is required by a lot of vintage groups but isn't actually specified in Monoposto regs for vintage cars. It's a really good idea to have one, I looked at a titan Mk6 recently and the fuel cell was a bear - very complex to cover with aluminium. The only way to go would be with a simple wedge type cell probably with far less capacity.

Thanks for the info. There are some additional safety-related tubes installed on my car, so a normal-sized Titan fuel cell won't fit. ATL sells a wedge cell that looks like the perfect size to fit in the available space. It sounds like I need the metal box as well. I will be running with SOVREN when I get the car back together, but it sounds like I should have the box whether they require it or not.
