I am new to vintage FF and as such, do not know the correct wheels to buy for my Titan Mk6b. I have a set of old English Ford steel wheels with mounted rains but I am told that, even though they look like the right ones, they may not be. Any help will be greatly appriciated.

What is correct for the car? Find out what is shipped from the factory with.

My merlyn came from CRD with the 5.5 solid steel Cortina GT wheels. This is what I have. Most merlyns of FF's you see run the Dunlop wheels with the small oval holes. Some cars run a new set of Weller wheels which simply fill the need for wheels.

Both types of wheels are out there, you just need to hunt around. I found 4 sets by buying one or two here and there.

Both the cortina and the dunlops were 3.75, at least in the US.

Now, I don't know what the factory wheel was for crossle cars, I know the have the 4's in the rear only.

While on that subject, does anyone know what the wheels used on Lola's were from? They are on a 4.25" bolt center.

    - Bought brand new Wellers
    - Paid a lot
    - Paid even more to get them made round
    - They were made in 2003 and had rust spots brand new in the box

Not much good to be said there about Weller or the dealer.

The 'Correct' wheels are new wheels.

No one should trust their safety to 40 year old metal wheels!

    Murray,

Mine are 4.25 and appear to from a Cortina. I also believe the Pinto was the right size and they made at least 8 million of the little dickens.

Thanks Bud; I will take a tour of our local wrecking yards to see, now that I know what to look for.

The wheel rule varies all over the country. Pre-74 cars tend to be required to run steel wheels. But out West I think they run most cars on more modern alloy wheels. Monoposto requires steel as original.

78 ran alloy in the day, so they are free. HSR wants to make a profit, so they'll let anything run.
