Well, great to see all the drivers and crew out at Mud-O this past weekend.
MASSIVELY let down by the live coverage. It LOOKS great... but they left us all out of the coverage. The only time you...
Ugh, sorry to hear such news from both of you!
...and then there were six...
I like it! We're staying at the hotel, haven't sorted all our arrangements exactly... but I'd also suggest if anything making it all Prototype drivers and crew - not that many P1 guys, but might as...
Very cool! I used to be in CAP, a few years back... well, decades, really! :ha:
We gotta bother Niemeyer, make sure he doesn't miss the party too... He/Scott were making noises about it...
Damn, that sucks, my condolences Jack... I'm glad you'll be joining us, but not for the circumstances.
(Also, where's Ralph to say "I TOLD you so!!!")
Maybe after the weekend we can convince...
Well, I suppose we each have a choice to make: do we wallow in the problems of the past, or push forward with enthusiasm to what the future could hold?
I've made my choice; a number of P2 drivers...
Actually, no. In point of fact, after massive downturn from the pandemic and subsequent economy flailing, P2 seems to be on a substantial resurgence for this year, as evidenced by the entries for the...
Now up to 5 for Mud-O... but I see 9 entered for Blackhawk in a little over a week!!! :greenflag:
Should have at least one more P2 signing up for Mud-O...
Well, I haven't gone back... ;)
That said, my point is more that you should just get out there with what you have and get seat time. Until you're heavily into that, it won't matter. There's plenty...
I ran 7's and 9's for quite some time on my P2, worked fairly well. Then I bumped to 8's up front, and 10's in the rear... etc etc...
When I moved to P2 - from ITB - I didn't know just how much I didn't know - but I knew it was a lot!
But that was a good part of the appeal; I'd pretty much tapped-out what there was to learn with...
...but you can get it on your skin, and inhale the fumes...
I believe it also burns dirtier vs. unleaded...
Also O2 sensors... and your own health...
Agreed, if you're concerned about parts availability etc... yeah, these may not be for you. Though the Wests and Stohrs are better than all others for that, excepting the Radicals. Stohr is still...
What has been touched on here but not properly, explicitly stated, is the difference between RON and MON octane ratings... Research Octane Number vs. Motor Octane Number... IIRC in the UK the RON...
Have you considered the Bosch Motorsport rearview camera, with radar integration for closing speeds and class recognition at night? ;)
If you have, I'm dying to know what they're/we're asking for...
Cheap to buy, you mean - no.
Cheap to make - yes, relatively. Not that many do.
You need to understand, it's the difference between bodywork vs. structural components of the core frame/chassis. Bodywork, the panels than hang on the outside - no problem, and at this date you'd...
Cheers; we usually try to make the Mid-O Majors with the P2, and sometimes get the 924 to the Divisionals.
Jack Baruth is also local there, usually runs those races...
I desperately want to get...
...and we had 5 runners (not just entries!) at Mud-O the other weekend...
Very regionally specific... the FA turnout for Sprints is amazing, and I'm glad we're in a different group! ;)
We'll...
Keith is always my go-to! Of course, having him more or less around the corner doesn't hurt, but just happen to be lucky that way. ;)
Yup, shim it with some AN washers.
Ah, I'd wondered what happened to you after that move! Funny, I had the EXACT same failure happen to me last year, but during a regular race weekend at Waterford, thankfully... it's amazing the...
Welcome Mike!!
Through a lucky confluence of travel, I happened to pass through the area where Mike picked the car up, so got a chance to try it on. Unfortunately, the nose was on so I couldn't...
I did find my clutch was really bad with needing a bleed before every weekend, and being useless by the end of the weekend... until I revised the geometry at the pedal to get the pushrod properly...
FYI, to my knowledge a bad cam sensor will allow the engine to run... but it won't start! So if it's starting, odds are you don't have a bad cam sensor!
I don't believe the secondary TPS would...
Yeah, I don't see that either - that would only be the case if it were a Spec line car, and you'd still have the option to race it either as a spec line car or under the general rules.
+1 for run it and get some seat time as-is, before deciding what to do.
Have seen too many fully-functional cars get sold then parked for years while a succession of owners modify or "restore"...
Yeah, actually pulling the signal off the diff (CV bolt head etc) would be notably better, since it'd be robust against sprocket changes - as long as your tire size doesn't change, you'd get a solid...
Definitely... my car came (as an FF) with lots of anti... finally got in there and fixed that last year, really woke the car up.
Still working through all the consequences!
Agreed, P2 would seem to make a better answer, and cheaper to race, to boot!
I wouldn't say I have a super-accurate measurement, since I'm only using the dipstick method to measure fuel before and after, but I'm seeing around 10-11mpg on track at speed.
Not bad for the...
Good to meet you this past weekend and almost kinda race with ya! Hopefully it'll be a little more enjoyable for us both next time... maybe a little more time to share a beer... ;)
PS - if you were to ever get the car over here to Waterford Hills for a race weekend, rest assured you would have a VERY warm welcome! Jim was much loved, and is missed, and we'd all be very happy to...
Derp.
I know this car well; watched Jim Lamb (RIP) run it quite a few years at Waterford. He (and my teammate) own the blame jointly for talking me into moving over from ITB to DSR! I had wondered...
For sure, these can be shifted without clutch. I only use my clutch twice a session, getting going and coasting into the pits.
Not a half-bad idea, pull the clutch slave and just be sure to remove...
Sorry to be late to the thread.
I run Girling masters on my P2, but remote reservoir. I too would wonder about the clutch building up some preload over the course of a session.
Do you use your...
I modded the stock bike harness, stripping out the unnecessary stuff (lighting mainly) and adding resistors etc to replace unnecessary switches/sensors. Then there's a separate harness I've built up...
I've been getting my terminals etc from Cycle Terminal: http://www.cycleterminal.com/
He's got a very good application list for the various bits, and excellent service.
Regarding your problem:...
He mostly spends his time on SMs these days, but Ralph Provitz, V2 Motorsports knows his way around a DSR/P1 or two - used to run Staudacher's last, fastest DSR.
He's in Sterling Heights:...
I'll be interested to hear if you come up with any improvements to the chain tensioning; mine's tensioned in the same fashion, and it is indeed a pain to work with, would love to streamline it...
Nice work! All that effort to make things clean and proper will start paying off immediately, as you obviously know.
Chiming back in with my build details, for completeness...
hi-pressure fuel pump: Airtex E2000 (fitment is Ford F150 5.0L '87)
fuel filter: Earl's 230626-ERL with 10micron replaceable filter...
Thanks for the input, guys... measurements revealed I need a whopping 9.5'+ long cable, to achieve the routing I want - joys of a lay-down car and needing to wrap it around behind the motor.
...
Hey all, hoping some can give some good examples of how best to attach a race throttle cable to the GSXR; my install has failed, and I'm having to rethink it.
I had obtained a good custom cable...
@E1pix: if you seriously want to get into racing, let alone open wheel, you're going to need to exhibit a lot more internal compass and care a good bit less about how others feel if you want to...
Wasn't really that crowded.
Not a lot of masks, even indoors; was a surprise coming from Michigan. Also seemed to get more relaxed as the weekend went on (vs. at Registration Thursday evening)....
I literally talked to him yesterday, after emailing a price inquiry and then a little bit of phone tag.
While the voicemail message stated they were not open, it appears to just be out of date.
...
@racerdad2 - that's easy, just drop the car off at his shop! ;)
I'm lucky to live just around the corner from him... have been thankful for his support for supplies and advice in equal measure...
