Congratulations David Knight...
Thanks PF, was thinking of making aluminum washers (shims) to eliminate end play.
And a steering dampener like came standard from the factory, Duh.
Hello all, I've been running my formula 1st in autoX, C-Mod. class this season. The front and shakes really bad under braking but goes away if I let up a bit on the brakes. I never noticed this...
Why not just get an old one and cut it open. But then you have to post photos for us. ;)
Welcome to FVee, if you look back to May 5th on this form you will see a thread about a book; getting started in FV by Jim Schling, I'm on the road so don't access to my copy at the moment but you...

To clarify the original poster asked about a 1.5 Liter deep sump while Dave J posted a link to CB performance 1.5 quart deep sump which is the one I used because is the same size as the engine sump...
Ahh no, you don't want to bring up that subject here :redflag:
Yes Ben it seems to me Formula First FST with it's 1600cc pushrod motor (only a single barrel carb though) would be a good less expensive place to start C-mod autocross before moving up to a FF car. ...
Ran my Formula First (FST)at the Auto-x meet last weekend with with an engineering student that I work with driving for me. We had fun getting issues sorted out and the tires dialed in a bit. We were...
Not exactly an answer to your question but seems how no one else wrote in with actual experience...
I installed the 1.5 qt. sump on my 1600cc (homebuilt without a scraper) as it fits real...
Yes but/and…. at 6' 1" 165# I find that I can fit in most formula cars but my size 12 EE feet don't always fit well to work the pedals with ease.:(
So what temps are you seeing?
Thanks. J
Welcome, Defiantly lots of Vee action as mentioned above, also some FST as your post asked.....check out formula-first.org there are a few fst racers in Tx and I think one or 2 races a year at...
Hot Rod Magazine did an article on bootleg parts made overseas a while back, MSD is a big target for these cheep copies, they took 2 units apart side by side to show the differences; it was sick;...
6 weeks to go :greenflag:
Can you clarify the word "ralenti" please.
Wow great progress, your first post was 12 days ago!
Just curious do a lot of Vees in Mexico have the brake backing plate material removed like yours? Don't think it is legal to do that in SCCA...
I'm sure you will be able to make your Vee run reliably, just takes determination to get it done and back on the track. Looking forward to your updates. J
Well gents whats the word on the new main track at Wild Horse Pass and how was the race? didn't make it down there this weekend….. J
Actually there is one going for $3,800 with open trailer! :greenflag:
Hi Eric sounds like you got it bad… think lots of us can relate.:revs:
I just checked the 2016 schedule on FormulaFirst.org thought they had a race near you at Hallett Motor Racing Circuit but...
Yes a gripping race. And what appeares on film to be a great course layout, turns flowing together nicely, plenty of racing room etc. :checkered:
Cool, looks like a very well thought out and built car.
Try posting on www.formulavee.org too.
One of the ideas of the the original post I think was how to present FV racing to up and coming lady drivers to grow the class.
That's a drag Allen,
Well you didn't tear up your car on the banking and you have $1400 head start on the racing budget for next year :greenflag:
Best of luck.
If I understand correctly and its not a safety concern, turning down the nuts would reduce unsprung weight and rotating mass. Maybe make the tec guy happy too.:greenflag:
A photo of mounted wheel...
Rich, as outlined above your cars are very welcome in pro-auto but you are not likely to see other vee's.
There is a race coming up Labor Day weekend in Wilcox at Inde Motorsports ranch, you...
just in from working on my car, was wondering how the Pro Autosports boys were doing in Canada and hoping for some news..... Looks like there are 7 of us up there.
Congratulations good work, hope this will be the first of many "victory laps"!:checkered:
I'm with Mr. frog on this.... :greenflag:
I can tell by your post that you have that deep desire to race. And the fact that you are even looking at this car is an indication that you like a...
Jay I know you have been working hard to develop FST, and formula car racing in your area, glad to see your car count is growing. Keep it rolling, it will snowball.:tire:
Great thanks Tim, thought I might have to pit in the dirt.... J
Thanks for posting Marshall, I had business to attend to today too but the Zink is loaded up and will be at the track at the crack of dawn tomorrow.... :greenflag:
Will you be there too?
So this is going to be a air-cooled VW based machine, or ???
Yes, not a tool but a very good part to bring to the races. Quick repair if you lose a push rod tube seal, also sometimes the tubes themselves have been known to crack or split along the seam.
Dave, so what was up with your oil pressure issue from the last race?
Well that link from Burky was from 2006 and my email bounced back.
Been busy getting the seat and driving position of the Zink suitable to my frame. Planning a test day at the Musselman Honda...
Ok Marshall #9 now I get the connection....
So where did you get the go-fast Apex decals? I looked around on this site a bit but didn't see anything.
Marshall, I heard you might be running this weekend.
Hmmmm. Well Tim it might be more of a mater of being in the wrong place at the wrong time. I've noticed that there is a skill that Champions seem to develop of not getting collected in other peoples...
Was just talking to Jens, there will be 4 new cars/drivers this weekend plus 1or 2 that haven't raced in a while.
That with our usual 14-16 we may reach a field of 20 this weekend.
As a new guy Im finding this discussion very interesting and informative. Thanks all.
My take away is to "pay attention" to posable stress risers and inspect brakes often (disk or drum), and to...
Johan, thanks for sharing this photo and telling how the class is evolving there. No one had considered the safety aspects of the installation to this point(on this thread).
Not quite understanding "parts Shortage", Just typed in "VW brake" on Phoenix Craig's list, found a set of drums and a set of backing plates $5 a piece..... Also a bare beam $20 and a transaxle drum...
Well it's a place to start he is a very busy guy I expect. But maybe like the rest of us he opens the racing emails first!:p
Good luck, J
Yes Mr. Click is a major car dealer in the area and is known to maintain a few nice vintage race cars. I called the main dealership office and was told by a receptionist that you may send an email to...
Sorry veefan, I thought it was something you were thinking of bidding on.... My bad.
Just looked my AS 21 case, the stud is recessed there too. Just referenced Tom Wilson's book " How to rebuild...
1) What's the 2" hole with studs below the dipstick area?
2) You did see that upper cylinder stud case saver is pulled out. Inside of case is very clean and mating surfaces are all glued up like...
There was a guy not to long ago with a similar circumstances, all new parts etc.. After much postings back and forth it finally turned out to be a tiny porosity in the master cylinder to where the...
