Welcome to PFM. Best of luck getting the car going. (I run FC myself so sorry do not know the PFM quesitons)
I noticed you are in Roundrock.
Just thought I would mention the COMMA series at...
I know it is a LONG drive. But, one place you will be able to race and is "reasonably close" is the COMMA series at Hallett in Oklahoma. There are usually several PFM show up for the the dual race...
I must give Kudos to Keith as well. He has helped me on my 1991 VD FC on several projects:
- Hard shifting transmission (LD-200)
- Custom throttle cable(s)
- Rebuilt steering rack
- Brake Pads...
I built a 200 hp Pinto for my FC. Purchased cam kit, intake manifold, etc... from Burton Power.
Absolutely no issues. Good service. Just takes long time to get across the big pond.

I am not sure how to reach him (I do not have his contact information). But Eddie Hill (yes the drag racing legend Eddie Hill) bought a PFM last season to run in the COMMA series at Hallett, OK. He...
Do my best to shift at 7,200. Still has lots left (Thank you Sandy and Erik at Quicksilver :D).
Was built to do 8,000. 7,500 as high as I have gone.
Trying to make it last a few seasons before I...
Have three race weekends on the XR700 unit now. Engine starts better, more consistent idle, better throttle response, and no high rpm miss. Price was very reasonable, install was really pretty...
1. The previous owner said they always used race fuel (i.e. 110 octane). Is that recommended? I would have thought these pinto engines could run on 93.... or even less.
- In SCCA spec, Pinto can...
The job is easy. Do it several times per season on 1991 VD FC.
Aaron
I have had nothing but fantastic service from:
Sandy and Erik at Quicksilver Racengines
Keith at Averill Racing Products
Thank you,
Aaron
Had Pertronix failures myself. Ran points for several races (1991 VD FC - 200 hp Pinto).
Started getting high rpm miss I could not figure out. Installed XR700. Ran one race weekend with it and...
Hmm....
I would run that CV all day long.
Yes the Pegasus CV joints will work. They do have the TDI lightened version (that is what I run on my 1991 VD FC).
Regards,
Aaron
Great racing on the video!
Looks to me like guard rails have been moved WAY back from the track from the early 90's! Turn 1 guard rail I remember was only foot or 2 off the exit of turn 1! And...
Another option outside SCCA is the COMMA series at Hallett. COMMA series is much lower cost and much more track time. Is a "run what you brung" type series where all winged formula cars are classed...
Best of luck to everyone this season. I spent several years racing FF in Canada and enjoyed every moment of it. The sportsmanship and friendship Canadian racers have is awesome!
I see 'Old...
Sure it is not SCCA compliant. But sure works well and looks kewl.
Very much enjoyed "preparing" it as well.

Never Autocrossed them, but I spent a LOT of time racing '85,'88, and '91 VD. All great cars. '88 worked great on street tires, not so much on slicks. My opinion. Go with a car that has pushrod...
Had the same problem on pinto FC. Cure was I ditched the pertronix and went to points. This was after new battery, plugs, wires, caps,,,,,,,,,,,,
Once I switched to points, no more problems. ...
Absolutely have them ceramic coated.
I used to own a coating shop. I did back to back temp testing on coated headers vs non coated. Can see up to 50% reduction in the header temp...
Stan and Tom,
Thank you both very much for the information. It is very much appreciated.
Aaron
Mike,
Relayed the information.
Thank You,
Aaron
Billy,
I have to say that I reccomend the "take the carb off and send it to Ivey, Quicksilver, etc...." I have spent a LOT of time chasing down the same issue that you have on FF and FC cars. ...
I must say that I have used ceramic coated heades for years and owned a ceramic/powder coating shop several years ago. (have since moved onto other opportunities)). Ceramic coating works very well...
Great video, nice run!
Aaron
Thank you. I have a friend who owns an older Anson Super Vee and is looking for a better more reliable head than the original Super Vee head. Any information would be appreciated.
Thank You,
...
What cylinder head was used on the US F3 Volkswagen engines that Bertils built?
I used to run Super Vees and noticed that the cylinder heads on the Bertils US F3 VW engines were cross flow compared...
Stan,
While I don't have any CNC routers.... I manage a machine shop for a living and we have several pieces of CNC machining equipment (lathes & mills).
Yes, they are amazing machines and...
Very Kewl Stan!

Keep in mind when the Pertronix units fail.... it is hard to looka them and tell what is wrong versus a good set of points.
I had a unit fail.... scratched my head for a long time tryng to...
Not sue how to reach him anymore, but Tommy Saunders (from Texas) won an Autocross national championship in a 198 VD FF which I used to run in road racing (won a COMMA championship at Hallett in...
Scott:
I did not experience your issue, however I would like to share an issue that gave my several headaches concerning the "cut off" switch. Seems the barcket that my "cut off" switch was...
Agreed,
Part of my race prep before the track is to check every fastener on the car.
Just put a wrench on it and check it is tight.
Aaron
Brian,
In Europe, FF's at least the and RF88 VD, came with oil-water coolers. I uninstalled it and also never ran a traditional air-oil cooler on the car.
I really doubt that FF's need oil...
"If you are running at the regoinal/club level (that would be me), then 1-2 heat cycle tires are most often better than what your competition has (5 - 10)." .......or (10-20) heat cycles....
I think it is a really easy choice. IF you are running the Pro series or Nationals you need new tires to win.
If you are running at the regoinal/club level (that would be me), then 1-2 heat...
Been down this road before. My advice is call Sandy (Quicksilver) or Jay (Ivey). Send them the carb. They can fix it and you can get on about racing. Really no need to waste track time trying to...
