This is in my Caracal C if that helps.

I need a 90 degree fuel inlet fitting for FV carb. Not sure of the thread size to look for one. Anybody know where to buy one?
Thanks,
Garry
I finished the bracket for the rear for the Wilwood floating caliper.
So let me get this straight, the fire suppression system requirements are the same for a GT1 car and a Formula Vee?

I'm going to try and finish this up this weekend. (That's a wooden bracket).
The picture disappeared.
I predict that when the 4 bolt wheel option and the Wilwood caliper are available there will be a lot more people "for it".
Trust me, you can't have disc brakes on a Vee any cheaper than this. You start with a 100% stock system and "add lightness" as you can afford. Unfortunately, it would have been nice if 4 bolt wheels...
How about this?
Front and/or rear brake drums and backing plate assemblies may be replaced with a disc brake conversion assembly as an option. The front spindle/steering knuckle, rear axle, axle...
My problem exactly. Finding one that fits and isn't 10% the price of the whole car is not easy. The small non-certified systems from SPA etc. are cheaper and seem every bit as good as the certified...
Trying to decide on new fire system for the Vee. After reading the GCR, it seems to say that a car registered before 1/1/09 does not need a SFI of FIA certified system as long as it meets all the...
I'm glad you found something that works for you. Now back to that battery thing...............:D
Can anybody suggest a battery for the Vee I'm putting together? Is anybody using Lithium?
Thanks,
Garry
I mean a stop in the other direction, coming towards you. Yeah, that caliper looks to wide to fit a "zero offset" wide-5 rotor.
Garry
These new Wilwood calipers are for use when the 4 bolt wheels are approved, right? I am considering using that Wilwood floating caliper on the rear to go with the front package I made for several...
Just wondering, does anybody (or everybody) put stops on their pedals?
The SVRA is at Road Atlanta this November 19-22.
Garry
Amazing how that Strega Engineering car looks like it has the "halo" of today.
That blue and yellow #31 is one of the best looking Vees I've seen. What is that?
Garry
Makes sense.
I was just going to go for the Wilwood but it gets terrible reviews. I was looking at Howe Racing. It uses a thick rubber seal instead of an O ring.
Garry
Anybody have a recommendation for a new clutch slave cylinder? The actuating arm looks stock.
Thanks,
Garry
They work!
Here goes: In conclusion
I decided to weigh the other rotor, caliper and bracket but with the bearings to compare with Andy's 19.2 weight for his complete drum setup. Came up with...
I'll do a summary of the fronts tomorrow.
After and before:
Final weight on front disc brake conversion (with bearing races).
That increases the track by about 1/2", I tried it.
I don't think there is a need for 4 bolt wheels if there is no track increase.
These kits are $239.00 each + tax and shipping so make it $600 just for kicks. They both bolt on. I have installed them both. They don't need any "machining". I just threw those scenarios out there...
Scenario 1:
Disc brakes become legal in FV
There is no track increase allowed
A few people spend thousands of dollars to have disc brakes
People who don't have disc brakes spend what they have...
Why is this "unfortunate"? I'd be willing to bet this is the way the majority of FV ( and many other classes) drivers afford to race at all.
Garry
I am going to try and use the Wilwood 120-3277 Dynalite single floater on the rear. I already have 1 of those. The thing about those is the mounting holes have to be EXACTLY right or the posts bind...
In my conversion, this is correct.
Here's where I ended up. I know the caliper is upside down, I only bought 1 to see if I could make it work.
Garry
...
Steve,
These guys might could help you out. There is a Technical Manual for 7000 series Penskes' on their website.

Nothing personal. I just saw a chance for a joke and I took it ! :D
I hope to God I'm not on here 10 years after I sell my Vee arguing with people I don't even know.
Rotor now turned to .26"
Out of the box:

The machining is the variable. As you know, machine shops don't like to set up to make small quantities. It took me a while to find one that would even do it. In addition to the removal of the...
This particular hub has very little clearance between the wheel mounting surface and the rotor in order to be "zero offset". The first caliper I tried was a 2 piston Wilwood that looks very similar...
To me, dates, percentages, whether you SHOULD be able to work on drum brakes etc doesn't matter. They are legal now and if somebody is happier with their racing experience by changing to discs, they...
Can this scoop be purchased anywhere?

It's good to know those calipers work well. They open up more possibilities because of the narrow profile of the anvil side.
Garry
I got it. I figured out what that groove was for!
Is there a trick to get the bearing spacer off of the link pin axle? I ordered new ones but the old one is really on there. I don't want to damage anything.
Thanks,
Garry
Since I hadn't seen anything written about people using those kits, I figured they were just too heavy even try. The 4 bolt discs look a LOT lighter.
Garry
Front: Empi#...
Please excuse me if I am being ignorant here, but after reading all the posts and looking at websites etc, it seems that if 4 bolt VW wheels were allowed everybody with a FV could have 4 wheel disc...
OK thanks. That's pretty much what it does now.
I think I fixed it. I took everything apart, freed up the axle tubes a little with gaskets put it back together and it seems to be fine. I can get about 6 degrees of negative motion now with little...
