Hmmmm...I suppose he could be but he definetly looked older to me. He would be a pretty big kid for 13. I coached football players that were 13 years old and this kid is bigger than any of those....
There were no closed wheel cars in Group 2.
There were about 15 entrants in Group 2. Three FBs, 11 FFs and only one F4 (Formula Development). I estimate the F4 driver to be about 16 years old. The kid was quick and well mannered on track. No...
A real beauty. Love the colors.
Not to mention the driver's ability. Do I understand the driver has little to no experience? This is by no means a beginner car.
EDIT: NEVERMIND. I NEED TO DO A BETTER JOB OF LOOKING AT THESE...
I just spoke with Rob Elson at SVRA, the new technical director. He tells me that the Formula Development cars are F4 cars with new kids at the wheel. (These are not the same drivers in the SVRA F4...
Now I see there is a separate group for F4. I'll call SVRA and find out.
Just saw the prelim schedule for SVRA at Mid Ohio and noticed a strange grouping: "Groups 2, Formula Develop".
Anyone know what Formual Develop means? Group 2 is non-winged formula...
I would expect the red line to be the same across all gears. Consult with the engine builder.
Understood.
Scotty Young can answer all of your questions on these gearboxes.
Just had my MK9 rebuilt and this was certainly the case.
This may very well be the case. I JUST had my MK9 rebuilt by Scott Young Enterprises where they replaced the old VW R&P 8:31 with a modern 8:31. Could have installed an 8:33 instead at a much lower...
Do you refill the system with AF or just leave it empty?
The gearbox for my Alexis FF is out for an overhaul and won't be returned for a couple months. I live in the Cleveland, Ohio area where it will get much colder before the box comes back. The engine...
Bob, here is an older photo of my '68 Alexis MK14. As you can see, we have a different solution.
For me, FBs are the coolest cars on the planet. But, be sure to have, or get, some good experience driving a formula car before jumping in to an FB car. They are typically 180HP and top out around...
I just looked up the Group 2 race results for SVRA at Mid Ohio and to my surprise they combined Mazda Miatas with Group 2 formula cars. We were not able to attend this race.
Does anyone know the...
Agree. It's all about the driver. If you have well developed driving skills, then, you might get that edge with a Titan. But, if you're just starting out you might get frustrated with a car that you...
I have to say that my experience with SVRA has been very positive. Have not experienced any of the issues mentioned in this thread. I'm not saying they didn't happen, but, not in my experience in...
What he says...
Top speed of a Citation/F1000 car at 170MPH? Do you really want to start there?
Not sure the F1000 is SVRA eligable. Check it out on the website.
Good luck.
I just saw the 2021 schedule for SVRA and IMS is not included. Does anyone know the story? Has it been permanently cancelled?
I had 12SPs on the front and 14LFs on the rear of my Alexis and while I dont' have the 12s any longer the weight difference is minimal.
Glad I didn't make an offer...;)
I'm going to say maybe north of $100k.
We ran our vintage Alexis Formula Ford at Watkins Glen last weekend in the SVRA event, and, due to an engine problem, the prospect of going home was starting to set in. I shared our woes with Tony...
I found that lower PSI, like 17-18, works better than 19 or higher. At Indy it was hot, sunny and 88 degrees. At 19 or more PSI hot they seemed greesy.
After the input on this post from others...
Alan, thanks for the input. So, you are looking for 15 PSI hot?
By the way, nice Lola!
We switched this year to the vintage Hoosier tire for our Formula Ford. What is your target tire pressure when the tires are hot?
And, what pressures do you actually see after a session?
We...
A fuel truck will be at the speedway.
Here is the official explanation from Rick Parent at SVRA...
Cars have been placed in group 2A or 2B randomly in order based on date entered and by class, A, B, A, B and so on. There will be FF,...
But now there are 2 races on the schedule for Sunday.
SVRA has scheduled two "FF Reunion" races for the upcoming Indy weekend. They are scheduled for Sunday.
There are over 80 entries in FF for the weekend and they are divided into two groups, Group...
Going to IMS next week for the SVRA Invitational. We are renting a Gasoline Alley garage for the weekend.
Does anyone know how well the garages are equipped?
Table or workbench of some...
I recently changed out all the rod ends on my 1968 Alexis FF. Cars in those days used industrial rod ends and they very heavy duty compared to today's modern rods. Mine will probably last much longer...
Anyone have camber recommendations for the Hoosier vintage treaded Formula Ford tires?
Thanks. :greenflag:
Looking at getting some new shoes for the Alexis. Hoosier Vintage FF tires are the likely choice. Anyone know where to best order a set that can be delivered to my home? Located in Ohio. Switching...
I would be interested in one also. I've got an Alexis MK14.
Check out the indoor karting track nearby.
Yes, I have an Alexis MK14. The chassis in the cockpit uses double tubing similar to a Brabham. Adds rigidity for sure but gives me pause when thinking about a side impact with those tubes so close...
Very nicely done!
Brake balance OK with balance adjuster toward the front.
Not sure of the 3 bolt version. I have a combination on my '68 Alexis MK14 with the 14LFs on the rear and the 12SPs on the front. Just rebuilt the 14s a couple of weeks ago.
The 14s have a 4 bolt...
About to replace my harness. I have used Willans, Sabelt and OMP in the past. Going with Sabelt this time around because I like the adjustable lap belt.
I am rebuilding the Girling 14LF calipers on my Alexis MK 14. The calipers are not currently using the rubber dust boot. The rebuild kit includes the dust boot. Is it recommended to use the dust boot...
I was a little surprised to see how slow the standing start was on the video. Maybe this helps with stalled cars at the start. I would also stagger the rows to help with any stalled cars.
Just my...
Agree.
I like it! :greenflag:
I say leave the aluminum foil on the suspension! Gives it that outer space sort of look.
Nice job.
