"Trimmed Out" = no diffuser, broomstick front and rear lower wings, no upper rear wing.
The throttle was truly diabolical in the infield section.
I saw 158 at Pocono, completely trimmed out, back in 2009. Handled like crap in the infield section.
The Reynard is probably not a good base to convert to F1000. You'll pour a ton of time and money in it, it won't be competitive, and you'll never get a decent fraction of your money back when it...
You back from hiding Don?
Doug,
Jason Bell no longer owns those Citations.
Save a few bucks Bill and join FB!
Bob, will the FB costs be the same as Atlantic or somewhat less? Like more in line with F2000?
Jeremy, I asked because it's listed on the linked F1000 site! But congrats on remaining. I'll eventually find a car I'm looking for.
So is Jeremey's car back up for sale?
FAA and FAB?
Sounds like something out of the Federal government.
Phew! That sure got a bit ugly. I think I'll go do track days in tintops now:D.
Len,
We had assistance from FSRAC. That fact (inexperience) is also one of those Rumsfield things about knowns and unknowns. Hindsight visibility is so much more acute.
Oh, and I forgot the...
Interesting that I agree more with Stan and Jay than I used to! I too blame the CRB. We were inexperienced at rule-writing... intent and wording did not have complete consistency. When issues...
I had a homemade mechanical shifter with tubes, rods, and rodends. It worked wonderful. Never shifted down to first at all, even at 55 MPH corners. 1st gear would result in wheelspin anyway. And...
Now that FA seems to be the previously described "open wheel class of misfit toys", a path forward seems obvious to me. Everytime "tragedy" strikes, opportunity arises. FA could actually be pretty...
Thanks for clarification and reminder Stan. It's not what I wanted... Back then, I wanted more open rules... to see where development led. And here we are today approaching FA lap times. But...
Daryl,
Race ECU has a different part number. At least they did with the Gen 5 Kawi and 06 Yamaha. Also at the time, the piggyback rule had some specific wording. IMHO, it all went wrong starting...
Yes, 2006. I feel old. At the time, my understanding was a strict interpretation. Concern was that FB would turn into DSR and motor of the month (expensive). Stock throttle body is THE one that...
Just to illustrate the confusion, I was on the rules committee, and I walked away from it believing that ECUs could not be re-programmed. "Stock" meant stock ECU with stock ECU programming... at...
Wow. Thomas is in the exact spot I'm in!
Stick with the Regional Plan. Stay way from those Majors. Screw the runoffs. I've been looking at FB cars again.
I've never seen a magnesium brake caliper... but I used to clean up mag intakes on mechanical fuel injection Porsches with paint remover. It doesn't take long... don't let them sit in it.
550 / 750 springs with Hoosier bias ply tires on Steve's car was a nice compromise for me.
Recommend be careful... that's a fire hazard. Do NOT put a larger capacity fuse in it!!!
This sounds like the old Toyota WSR.
Perhaps unnecessarily, I made two mechanical shift systems out of thin wall tubing. They worked perfectly all the time.
Yup... well tell your bud in the F1000 car!
Nice run. Looks like you have a bit too much air pressure in that left front tire. You can see the crown and the darker black stripe down it while running.
I'm out of FB, and SCCA for that matter, but our rules committee vision way back when was that all engines received the same restrictor, if it ever came to that.
Agree that engine failures are...
Stan... I used some bad language! Not at all intended to be negative.
It seems the latest Tech bulletin now adds 25 lb to min weight for engines 2011 and newer.
And I completely agree with...
Of all the 10 or 15 variables that I can think of off the top of my head that effect lap times, trying to "fix" one is called system tampering and is always detrimental.
Personally, I believe the...
Steve wrote what I was about to post. An inline screen. You want one anyway! And I used a Marston Aerospace oil/water heat exchanger on mine to great effect. I found it on EBay years ago for like...
Agree keep it simple. Be careful of finding your future better half and not having the time you expect!
Steve is a great resource. It's wise to follow it. You ought to look at what he has...
My old Yamahas (04-08) had those splined washers. Maybe the same?
So how did LRP go?
No Mike... I didn't read the supps since I'll be in New Mexico by then!
Good luck Doug with track record. Hope you do it. My car in 2009 was the just built Citation with stock ECU on 06 Yamaha...
Doug,
If the FVee's and FF's are included in your run group, I wouldn't bother going. If the group is really wings and things, then you can try to keep up with the slower Atlantics and P-cars. ...
Cool stuff. Congrats Phil.
Looks like another spec series to me rather than a "formula".
Looking quite good Maris!
Thanks for checking for those air diverters Skip.
Rick, this car is now silver and black. Used to be red, white, and blue back in 2000, which is the last time it ran. It came from Louisville, KY.
I bought George Frazier's USF3 F399 car... the one he used only in the first part of 2000 in the USF3 series... still trying to figure out a bunch of stuff:
- Is gearchange like the LD200? MK5...
Looking good Maris,
I sent you pictures earlier today.
My engine has been slow-dripping through the sump scavenge outlet O-rings. Someone must make a double O-ring type fitting!
Maris - I agree my previous post was cold. The past is not always useful in predicting the future, but it often helps.
It occurred to me over the weekend that if F4 fails, all the carbon tub...
I wonder how close the F4 series will parallel the 2000 to 2001 F3 VW series.
It has gotten bumpier, but you'll be fine. Just watch the curb on the right hand side at the lefthander before the main straight.
I used to fill them with silicon sealer. Not sure if still done today.
Interesting read on this thread! That sure looks like a vintage Hoosier...
I read that as approved.
I was there years ago. But I've become an old curmudgeon. From my recollection, parity was never a goal. Restricting overall HP was part of the discussion, we disagreed on that, and there has...
