PM me for a friends email; he has the Moodini, the Lotus 23-like sports racer the Moothart's built before the car you are researching. I met Denny M. some years back and we talked about the SV. It...
Good to hear another SV surface; hope to see you on the track with her!
Thanks for the fresher info. What don't you like about the dry sump system? I'm running one of these currently.
Yeah, watched it again, and see 6700 isn, but same point.
Just a comment on the cheat/no-cheating debate; watching the video, I didn't see the rev's raise beyond 6500. Seems most non-legal Fords are going to gain on the top end, with a compression bump, or...
By chance, is it chassis 43? I owned and drove for most of the 90's.
As Stan said, '98-99 Jetta or Golf 8 valve crossflow head; casting # 06A 103 373 J. Bear in mind that it has had a lot of the prep the old Supervee head had; bored for big buckets, porting, bigger...
In formula car use, the engine is dry sumped, and should be at a slight neg pre. in the block, so a plate is made that just blocks off the hole. Usually a vent line will be run from the cam cover to...
Just remember to brake before the bottom!
If you strike out there, PM me, as I sold him my Tui Supervee back in '96, and have his mail address somewhere.
I'v used the Bosch blue in a number of cars, including my FF, without any external resistor, just straight hook-up.
The manifolds were built for the VW engines you describe, but for use in the Rabbit, which has the engine inclined 15 deg. as I recall, so carbs are level (floats). The Supervee version was the same...
Would these be 1600, or 2.0L? No-crossflow head? SV spec cam, or milder, which I think it must be to get the longevity, (lower revs). Sounds interesting at that price. I have a few back-up engines,...
One thru four is my favorite chunk of racetrack anywhere; and I can't see too many people ever calling it anything but Mosport!
Just about all the 1800's you will find started life as 1600's. Block bored from 79.8mm to 82ish, and 1800 crank, and 144mm rods added, 1600 head retained. Three versions are usually found; 1800....
I used to race against Ron, and your Lola 3-4 times a Summer. My friend, and Apex member, Rob Ritt used to prep, and help at the track when Ron, and his buddy Len, in another 620 ran. Rob now own's...
As Keith notes, the slave is usually 7/8's. In my SV, with same clutch, etc. I found a much better clutch feel by going with a 5/8's master, instead of the 3/4's the car originally had.
If you can find a copy of SCCA's SportsCar mag., from April, '79, they do a feature article compairing the '79 March 79V and the Autoresearch SV. Also , in the same issue, is a showing of all the...
There were two versions of ATE caliper's used on the SV's Keith Averil has info on rebuild kits, and you might do a search here on Apex, as a few years ago I sent another guy the part # for the...
Check out Monoposto.com; this is one of the vintage groups dedicated to open wheel cars in vintage, and along with FF, FV's, Jr's, F-2's and SuperVees, has a F-B group. 8 to 10 races around the E....
Another point worth mentioning is to bring your race gas, as the cost is at least double what we are paying here, (at least at Mosport, $12 to 14 per gal.)
My Wife and I are heading to Mosport tomorrow, as we do every year for the Vintage weekend. We have always driven thru without any lists, etc, just explained where we were headed, and how long. Yes,...
I had a tui BH-5 back in mid-90's. The Tui's were made bu Alan McCall, a Kiwi, who worked as a mechanic for McLaren (if I remember right) He constructed F-3, F-2, and Supervee cars, which ver pretty...
I'l let a current air-cooled guy fill you in, but before my water-cooled years, I ran a 1700 in a '75 Tui. The big issue with the air cooled engines was oiling issues. In the day, the engines were...
I too have been running a water-cooled SV for the past 13 years in vintage. With reasonable comp ratio's, (in my case, 12 1/2 -1) the only issue I'v had is with older rods breaking. My motor's run...
Yep, that's the car. Ricardo ran it a few years at the airport course we had at the time. I'v never seen a car/driver run thru a shlolom (sp?) as beautifully as Ricardo in the SV; it would pivot...
Is this the former "Ill Gato" autocrosser I remember from the Traverse City Cherry Pits X-cross's of the 80's?
CastBlast and AlumiBlast works great; no problems with heat making paint fail, and they both hold up for ages, makes it easy to clean calipers, etc.
If you have the engine running, you'v got it right! The pump #'s will refer to the cylinder positions of 1-4, starting at the front (cam gear end) to back. Tom
