Hi Mike,
Ben actually sold me the rear MC subframe and has been very helpful. He said that he had a bunch of pictures but wasn't sure where to find them. Additionally I think is pretty busy...
The FST top speeds are not much more then the FV top speeds. May even be less on certain tracks like Road America. The FST engine tends to run out of power around 6500 possibly because of the...
True, I will call it a mono shock system then!
I think if you were to put some kind of strain gauge on the frame behind the roll bar I think you would see chassis flex vertically and laterally on...
Hi,
I am converting a FE chassis to run in the P2 class with motorcycle power. I have purchased a rear sub frame assembly that holds a 1L motorcycle engine that I think might have been used in...
I had a gen one Laser back in the mid 80's with a dual shock zero roll system. The frame would flex so much during lateral load transfer that the front pulley would hit the battery which was over a...
Truer words have never been spoken.......
Not sure the roll over bar extension piece is legal.
Nice looking car!
I just installed a new SL82 in our NP01. it is virtually identical to the 75 that we took out. One difference is the neutral lock out cable is on the right side of the 82 and left side of the 75.

The entire time I have been running with SCCA, 37 years, I have felt that the club has zero point zero concern for FV. San Francisco region has basically eliminated the class through unfavorable...
Hi Timo,
I live in the Sacramento area and have 36 years of FV/FST combined experience. Feel free to contact me if you need any help.
Hi,
Does anyone have any idea what the preferred temperature, as measured on the outside of the CV with an on board IR sensor, should be?
After talking to some drive line company's at the PRI...
Why would that seem odd? Those two groups are essentially run by a dictator (SCCA) They took the time to put out the request to the tire manufactures, tested the submitted tires using some of the...
Just to be clear I know many of the committee members and have the highest respect for them and truly believe that they are doing the responsible thing which is the proper due diligence. With that...
Exactly........................ Been saying this for years.
Or by the time the class has completely vanished......
Matt, The east coast guys have done a great job with the FV series. It just wont work out here with SCCA because San Francisco region, "the region that knows better" has decided that the FC's need to...
I do like the concept of a two piece drum. If it is well made, and affordable, I doubt the comp board would have a problem with it. With that being said I would much rather spend the money on disc...
I don't think FV is growing on the east coast, maybe maintaining might be a better description. Hats off to the them and the challenge series for what they have done.
There is no doubt that the...
FV is shrinking also, probably at a higher percentage rate than FST, just look at the FV's for sale at ridiculously low prices. In California FV regional racing is gone. There are a handful of die...
Greg, The Thunderhill FV record is bogas. It was a mistake and the stewards will not remove it. The true track record for a FV at TH is about a 2:03.?? When I drove my FST at TH last year I was...
I don't think that anyone is saying that it is too hard to adjust the drum brakes it's just more of a hassle.
I have not had brake fade problems when using a high quality shoe. Maybe...
Brian is correct the tire is the limiting factor to the overall braking ability of the car. Besides that for us tall guys the consistent 1/4" brake pedal travel provided by disc brakes throughout the...
So has this been approved for 2018 or are they asking for member input on the concept?
Scott
Can you give me a rough high and low ride height range for maintaining the aero on an flat bottomed sports racer with a rear defuser?
Wouldn't more ackermman also cause more diagonal weight transfer across the chassis based on the KPI and caster?
Not completely sure what you mean by that.
This chart represents a Penske 8300 with the upgraded compression adjuster and canister. I would consider it state of the art for FV.
Here you go. Don't forget as Ed said the motion ratios are different for each car.

Last year they ran the same configuration as SCCA will be running for this years runoffs.
I would expect the same this year.
It is very close to the I racing configuration.
Brian,
I could easily make a argument that the top subscribed classes FV, FF, SM, SRF gen 2-3, in SCCA are all what I would call blue collar classes. Not sure how you define blue collar but it...
Obviously.......
I'm not referring to those people with unlimited budgets, I'm referring to the blue collar racer that is disappearing. You know, the blue collar racer that was the...
My plan right now is to bring two FV's to the runoffs in 2017. I will wait and see what the actual schedule looks like before making my final decision. If they combine FV and any other class I will...
Well, my strategy would be to run the long box because of the back straight, or between T11 & T12. It is not only quite long but the last 60% of it is down hill. Additionally it is likely the last...
Unless you have designed your motor to make power at 8000 RPM I would go with the long box.
Hi Stan,
Completely stock Elan NP01 car. We did put on a third set of tires strictly for insurance, however, we could have made it with two sets. The original set of rotors and pads made it the...
Current FV drivers Scott Meyer, Aaron Meyer, and former FV driver Jason Ricker win the longest, most grueling, endurance race in North America, the NASA 25hr of Thunderhill. Not only did we win our...
Random Thoughts,
I have run an SVRA event. It was a great experience.
Additionally I know a couple of fellow racers that made the trip last year to Indy for the SVRA event in their formula...
400-500 depending on the type of cooling scoops.
I always measure my temps under the plug. Bob, If you are seeing 350 under the plug then rejoice because I have never seen temps, in that location, under that.
Steve,
Where are you measuring your head temp? Under the plug or on a head stud?
Daryl, do you remember what size master cylinders you had with this set up?
Yes, that is exactly the information I am looking for. The ratio between the pedal pivot, master cylinder drive rod, and the end of the pedal where the foot pressure is applied.
Lets assume that I am using 3/4" master cylinders for both the front and rear of my FV. Does anyone have an approximate pedal motion ratio?
I am thinking somewhere between 4:1 and 6:1
It's highly unlikely that the spec tire, a harder tire, is going to be faster than the current tire. I believe Steven Davis tested the spec tire and was 2-3 seconds slower than the current tire.

I'm in.
Yes, I also heard that FST will be accepted.
Awesome news!
Rick,
Thanks for the response.
I like SVRA and look forward to running more of your events.
Rick,
Did you move the production cars based on the number of formula car entry's ?
Will this be an ongoing trend to keep them separate or will the entry numbers dictate the grouping?
What happened to the production cars? Did they move them to another group?
Here is the info for the vintage event at Indy next year.
I doubt they will let FST in, however, it does say "Any open wheel car" so you never know. I did run my FST in one of their events in...
