Do you have a cast dry sump "pan"? My engine builder used RTV rather than a gasket. Last time the RTV was...
Your turn. Very old guard being replaced by the "not quite as old guard" :)

FYI in autocross with a formula car there is no "steady state" cornering other than "is it ever going to turn" understeer . . . which you need to tune out. ;)
For reference the 85 VD FF1600 which won CM at the Solo Nationals in 2014 has an approximately 93 inch wheel base afaik (mine was). I think the Swift DB1, including the 2013 winner, is in the same...
Keep in mind that the batteries used for race cars are LiFePO4 and not the common Li-ion. I don't know whether LiFEPO4 have the safety concerns that Li-ion have. However, Ballistic does use "strong...
Charlie,
If shoulder fit is the only issue it might be with a diagonal brace between the front roll hoop and the rear hoop. If so, for cars like Swift DB-1's and 85/86 VD's the brace can be moved...
Shouldn't the measuring tools be calibrated by certified calibration services to NIST traceable standards and recalibrated at appropriate intervals (like just before the Runoffs each year)?
Alternately padding such as rollbar or pipe insulation (if not GCR required padding) might be more convenient. I never use padding on me . . . just on the car.
Whether a seat insert is enough for seating positions will be relatively easy to determine prior to purchase. Make sure that feet reach pedals and driving shoes aren't too big or interfere with frame...
Or maybe he likes the FM better since many times they are faster than the fastest CM FF with a top tier driver? :D
Dick
CM85 - Not even close to top tier driver
Can a Solo Vee "fan" such as John or Johnny explain "why" there should be a competitive class for Solo Vees? AFAIK there is no other racing class in SCCA for these cars including Formula First....
I guess there is no doubt that you hit at least two cones on the slight chance the run wasn't a dnf. ;)
Dick
Actually, the "walls of cones" courses are a long time San Francisco area tradition and well liked, at least in the old days, by the locals. The pre SCCA rules defined the course with the white lines...
Also, how fresh were your tires? I assume 25A's.
Thanks for posting! CM is great fun.

CM 85
Since I was stupid enough to leave the SF bay area in 1986 I autocrossed last weekend in my Mustang GT on all season tires. I hope to try the Mustang on borrowed BFG Rivals next weekend at an EVO TnT...
Speaking of tires, doesn't Hoosier warn against subjecting the tires to freezing temps? ;)
Dick
How about simply adhering a layer of colored vinyl to an appropriate width strip of the 3M material on the adhesive side? If your numbers are black you could use the plain back version. ...
My understanding is that a real road racing FF like the Vector would be added to the list if someone writes to the Solo Board requesting the addition. As Lynn pointed out the purpose of the rule...
Jim - Thanks for the REM treatment suggestion!
Dick
Daryl - I'm not sure what you mean by slight %. I assume that with fast no clutch shift that the clutch has to slip and/or the tires have to spin slightly to bring the revs down for the taller gear....
OK.
For those of you who have broken 16 tooth seconds (Nick, Jim, ???) what strength version, age, and brand were they? Specifically were they the post 1993 Hewland or Webster with the best...
Here is the first day. No real need to up shift from the 66 mph gear. Similar issue though of where would I if the ratio didn't cover the whole run?
...
How many of you guys up shift when cornering at over 1g?
Look at this data "picture" and at the video with data displayed (ignore the "gear") The whole run was in my 66 mph second except for after...
Chris and Barry,
If you were running a roughly 66 - 68 mph third gear and a roughly 78 or so 4th do you think you would have shifted up or down from that gear as much as you did between your...
Mark,
You probably should try to get the car owner (Chris Pruett) or Nick to comment about the pros and cons of the gearing in Chris's car and why Nick decided to shift so much. Maybe one of the...
Sounds like a local region accommodated these guys by unofficially classing them in CM since it is NOT a CM eligible car. In fact it really is what Solo calls a "special" which goes in AM.
The...
I have no idea what, if any, SCCA Solo or Road Racing class this car would be eligible to run in.
Dick
C Mod with a Briggs engine?
Dick
I hope a box of 4 rolls doesn't last me 4 years . . . far too few autocrosses. :D
Guys before you think 4 1500 foot rolls is a lot of wrapped tires you might want to do some math given that each tire needs about 6 feet of material for each layer. I generally use 3 layers for open...
Pallet wrap is probably more of an "autocrosser" thing, especially for those of us who tow long distances on open trailers. Bags are fine once the tires are off the car.
Dick
Mark - I probably will use them all at some point.
At that price for us to pay shipping from NC to CA probably wouldn't be worth it. You can buy a full box from the same source Pru and I did with...
I just received 4 rolls (one box) of 1500' X 15" 80ga from this source. Similar price to the 18".
...
Which R&P ratio do these assume?
Thanks!
Dick
You mean "Salina Snakes"? ;) My first Nats in CM (1993) and my only Nats in ASP (1986) were in Salina. I really don't remember the details after 20 years . . .
Dick
Is Lincoln the only "Midwest" concrete or asphalt site with significant OPR?
Thanks!
Dick
WOW! Thanks!
Dick
You can have my seat since I'll be home in NC. :-(
I'll keep that in mind while in the meantime settling for the no lag torque of my 5.0 Mustang :)
Chris - I'm driving my CM at an EVO School hosted TnT.:)
Thanks!
I got out of the habit/addiction when "life changed" financially in 2002. Returned in 2012 after I retired to check out Lincoln. Hoped to have gotten back some of the "speed" I used to...
Not going this year.
Have fun!
Dick
To anyone who hasn't been to Nationals at Lincoln: Be sure to bring course walking shoes that you can throw away (or save for next time). They WILL pick up lots of OPR. Of course, the tires will...
FYI: I wonder how well the Avon rear cantilever FF tires will work, especially in the transition intensive autocross environment? Also, from some of the things the DM/EM guys have found about the...
Mike,
Don't know how credible I am anymore :( but with the iron head I've always believed that a street heat range plug is best for autocross. Due to a funny "quality story" with a set of...
Don,
Good info. What grease do you use for the CV's. I tow mine on an open trailer through heavy rain a lot and haven't had a problem (maybe I better check). I"ve got conventional CV's and "aero"...
Good luck finding a "no anti-freeze, plain water only, etc. " rule in the GCR. :D That said for track racing with crashes, etc. it is a great idea even if there isn't a track rule. I want the freeze...
Since I run antifreeze the coolant is good until the engine comes out and the rads get cleaned/checked. Given my use that can be years (or even a decade). I do add anti-corrosion stuff like water...
Doug,
Glad to hear you had a Great time at Lincoln and that you are going to Blytheville. Guess I can sign up too so you have someone to beat. :o
It looks like I'll be the only CM car at the...
