I'll be attending the SCCA event next weekend at the Glen. Does anybody know if it's possible for racers to buy AV gas at the Penn Yan airport, or somewhere else nearby?
Sounds like they perform well and are relatively long lasting.
Thanks Sherman.
Hoping to get some feedback on the Porterfield R4 shoes for Vees.
I've run the RD4 and am pretty happy with them, but I've never run anything else. They've finally worn out after several seasons....
Thanks for the praise and suggestions Greg. Both you and Ed have helped me a lot!
Thanks Chris.
I suppose that filter should benefit with more airspace available directly above the carb.
My intake and exhaust are both good parts from respected suppliers so I'm pretty sure I...
One other thing worth mentioning- on a car with just the engine mounting at the bell housing, you should be very careful about jacking the car from under the transmission. Without a front engine...
I’m considering building a ducted airbox for the carb on my Vee. A friend who offered to help with design first asked about filters.
I mentioned that many Vees don’t run an air filter, just a...
Could you tell what other materials you used and how they affected handling?
Thanks much, Steve.
This set up is on my car. I'm curious about what droop rubber parts you ended up with. I've been using some urethane bushings with a durometer rating of 80 if I recall...
More specifically, I'd like to know which Vee manufacturer made this particular setup (specifically the same transmission mount and cranks), or which cars it first appeared on (Lynx B, Caracal...?)
I'm looking for some information on this rear suspension setup. Can anybody tell the origin of this; cars it originally came on, designer......
That looks like a good option. I should be able to get some bulk wire from NAPA
Thanks everyone for the info!
Those might be okay. On the subject of quality, from what I've seen most of the wires have a resistance of 350-500 ohms/foot. For a Vee, would it be worth getting these Taylor wires with a claimed...
FWIW, you can see that these have been relieved to fit the larger straight boots. I plan to repair them and use 90 degree boots.
Thanks for the tip, Sherman. I'll keep it in mind.
Appreciate the link. Looks like those are preassembled with a straight boot on the plug end. Wish there was more info, or a Pertronix item # to verify what they are. Those 4 digit #s don't...
I'm looking for a set with decent cables and 90 degree ends for the spark plugs, which will fit better under my head cooling ducts. Local auto parts guys can't seem to locate anything, even a...
The other thing I'll mention is that if you do buy these, I believe you can specify whichever valving you'd like. The higher numerical valving uses a larger number of shims, but reducing the valving...
If anyone needs the tech manual for these (seems to have been removed from their website), I can send a PDF if you PM me with an email address.
/Tim
I bought a set of these a few years ago. At the time I spoke to one of their techs. He mentioned that these were a continuation of a Carerra shock and recalled the valving that was spec'd for Vees. ...
Thanks everybody for the input.
From the past experience shared it looks like using thermocouples or thermistors and some data logging or displays small enough to use in the cockpit will have to...
I'm planning some experiments with duct work and engine temps. At this time I plan to use temperature indicating strips for measurement. The strips come in ranges so I'll need to order...
Car looks very nice.
Body work looks new. Could it be? I heard the molds for the Elite body parts are no longer around. Anybody know otherwise? I could use a new nose just like that now.
/Tim
PM Sent.
Thanks!
Forgive my naivete as a relative newbie to FV. I have not heard details about the cost savings here. Let's say we take the Carbotechs out of the equation and consider lining costs closer to the...
Am looking at the latest Pertronix module available for the 009 distributor. More info here...
I have a local welder who seems confident about completing this if I go that route. Do need to confirm the material type if it's going to be welded.
I'll check with Bill too.
Thanks!

I have to repair a transaxle case and am wondering if anyone knows what materials these are. I've heard about some of the older units being an alloy with magnesium, and that the later "tunnel" cases...
Very interesting. Thank you.
This discussion encouraged me to look around and I found this apex post by doing an outside search...
I did the measurement from a static position with drivers weight in. This stuff is new to me, but Mike, I think you're talking about "bump" travel. I'm asking about how much the wheel can FALL from...
Thanks, Greg.
Hello Mark.
To clarify, I'm concerned about a fairly limited amount of shock extension available before they "top out". With the new setup the shocks are fully extended at about 1.25" of droop...
I installed some "aero" front shock brackets recently. With the new brackets the mounting points for the shocks are further apart. So with this setup and the shocks I want to run I have just about...
Thank you, Steve!
This is a very valuable resource.
Thanks everybody.
Spoke to Dietmar and he does have a variety of suitable sets. Now just contemplating whether to continue with a complete new build, or finding a deal on a motor.
Okay.
I see that now, "pistons must be cast aluminum with steel inserts". Given that, is there a manufacturer that makes one that they would recommend for our use?
I'm looking for a new set of forged pistons for a 1200 rebuild.
About all I'm seeing on the shelves are the AA cast sets. I spoke to a rep from that company and he didn't think anything they had...
I really appreciate all the info from the more experienced folks here.
I also have this link http://chircoestore.com/tech_articles/?p=156
My understanding is that the cases that have dual relief...
Can you locate and post the case codes?
I bought a set of the QA1s last year. I'm new to the class so can't speak much about comparisons. That said, you can custom order the QA1s with different bump and rebound specs. Mine are not...
I'm relatively new to FV and have been looking at engine case options for a rebuild. One thing I came across is discussion of the AS41 vs AS21 alloy cases. Does anybody know first of all whether...
I'd be very interested to hear if you or anybody else has more info on the deep sumps- successful and failed applications if there are any.
I'm new to FV in general and had my first event in the great Challenge Cup series at Mid Ohio.
I got some good info from a fellow competitor on wheel alignment, though this was based on an...
Car is a one-off built in the late 80s, the "Viper" built by Mike Wietzes. I've been told it's similar to a Lynx. Was last raced in the Challenge Cup series in 2014. I plan to run Mid Ohio, W....
I'm an experienced road racer in sedans and production cars but now am prepping a Vee for my first event with it. I'm wondering about brake shoes.
I've heard about some using stock shoes but...
