Great question Tom now that the VDCA has created a home for "Group 9" cars.
Joe
Hi Russ, Welcome to the dark side. You will likely be racing with the VDCA if you plan to race a FF in vintage in the Southeast. They use the Formula Ford Challenge Series (FFCS) rules. Here is a...
Ivey Engines. https://iveyengines.com
They have race prepped carbs in stock. They sell their carbs to Pegasus.
Bolt it on, set the idle and go racing.

What carrier was used? I have personally had very good experience with DHL but I have had a number of issues with customs when using FedEx.
I have never seen an input shaft with a taper where the bobbin would be. A photo would be helpful.
You could use an annular throw out bearing like the one Pegasus sells. Then you would not need...
Hello Victor,
I have been doing some research on the Lotus 59 FB's that came to North America. Peter appears to have owned a number of Lotus 59's and 69's in period. I would also like to contact...
IMO 400 front and 300 rear. Set the front bar at 50% and rear bar 25%. Start with 3/8 rake and adjust handling by raising or lowering the rear ride hight (rake).
Cheers, Joe
You could also try asking on the Hewland Facebook page if you are not successful with Hewland Classic.

Yes, you are correct. My bad. I got my math wrong. I multiplied by 2 instead of squaring the motion ratio.
It is now corrected.
BTW, If the front motion ratio is actually 1.66 instead of 1.5...
Mark,
You will find that the wheel rate "operating window" for the Hoosier VFF tires is between 35% and 85% of the corner weights. Where in that operating window is dependent on a number of...
Transport needed. Any one from the St. Louis area going to Florida for the SCCA Majors? Looking to get 4 pieces of Formula Ford bodywork (cockpit, 2 noses and a tail) to Florida.
Thanks, Joe
Here is the write up for their installation by John Mihalich. https://www.lotusclubqueensland.com/ddc/
You will need some spacers and some bushing material which you can get at McMaster Carr and...
For a temporary fix, I have had some success using Loctite 660. The stuff is amazing. Works great on worn axle splines and bearing surfaces.

[QUOTE=Hawke;638741]And if my memory is correct - sometimes it has let me down - those forces are at the metric equivilant of 20 inches per second. Which is not a shock speed you will normally...
Bilstein. The 360/100 represents the rebound/compression fixed valving
These numbers are an abbreviation representing 1/10 of the Newtons for that shock. For example, a valve rating of 275/78...
Yes but...I am not sure all cars must be updated with a front roll bar after 1996 to race with the SCCA. The Florida region lets pre 1979 formula fords race in the "SCCA Vintage" group without a...
I believe roll cages (front roll bars in formula cars) were required in all cars "newly registered" with the SCCA after 1/1/79. They were mandatory for all cars "constructed" after 1/1/84. I find...
John,
Are you referring to these?

You can find them at Lee Chapman Racing. Part number X023C3007Z.

Here is some more info on these cars.

You may want to take a look at this old thread. It has some info on these cars.

Here are photos of Van Diemen Formula Fords between 77 and 81. Does your car match any of these?

I am sorry but I am not familiar with these cars or the body work that was used. There were originally three different types of Van Diemen bodywork used between 1977 and 1981. You may want to ask...
Chris, I am unable to see your photo. I assume you are not referring to the blue Russell car in the photos I posted?
Hi Chris,
Do you know what model Van Diemen you have? I own a 1975 Van Diemen RF75 that I am restoring which was a Russell School of Canada car. I am having new RF76 bodywork produced in the UK...
According to the Ashley website, it appears to be a model AFM10 used on a Escort MK1, 2.
Cheers, Joe
I use a 3/4" master and a 7/8" slave cylinder.

I had a similar dilemma a number of years ago while rebuilding a 1600 Cosworth Super Vee engine for my Argo JM2. Ted Wenz of MWE (now Savannah Race Engineering) recommended setting the number 1...
I have often heard the Lola 340/342's referred to as "Flexy Flyers" but that does not mean they can't be driven quickly. Doug Meis and Tim Gaffney are always at the pointy end of the FFCS grid in...
Congrats. Nicely done! Any thoughts of bringing this to Roebling Road VDCA next weekend for a shake-down?
Cheers, Joe
Nope. Not at all. Shock problem?
Joe
My experience is the Hoosiers work best at 16 PSI hot. The Dunlop's and Avons like 19 PSI hot.
I also found the Hoosiers needed a little less static camber.
Cheers, Joe
Looks like the front uprights on my Hawke DL17

Hi Brian,
We met at Mosport. I have a yellow Crossle 45F.
We look forward to you joining us. To my knowledge Shane Viccary will also be making the trip from Canada. I was hoping to also see...
Graham,
Do you still have a set of Cortina GT wheels you want to sell? I am looking for a set of 13 x 5.5 with a 4.25 PCD.
Thanks, Joe
Some of this has been covered before but......Hoosier treaded VFF tires vs Avon/Dunlop treaded VFF tires.....Hoosiers are slightly less diameter (around 3/8") so you will need to raise your car if...
My experience with Hoosier VFF tires is the same as Scott's. I get a season (6 race weekends) out of them. Once the tread is gone it is my understanding that you are into a different compound which...
Contact Holger Ahl at Powerslide Motorsports in Jackson NJ. He has a front running Hawke DL17 for rent. He attends all of the FF Challenge Series races.
Cheers, Joe
Here is one for sale. Seems like a reasonable price for a pre FT-200 gearbox.

Bassracer,
Most Pertronix failures are due to using the wrong coil. The early (black) module uses a 3 ohm coil (same as points) and the later Pertronix II (red) module uses a .6 ohm coil. If you...
Robert,
I started out with 2 lbs more in the rear which is what I used on the Avons and Dunlops. I am now about equal front to rear at most tracks using the Hoosiers. The most difference I have...
I once owned a Tecno F2 car which had Anti-Ackerman. It was used to offset the very short wheel base and helped prevent the car from wanting to swap ends. Best handling car I ever owned.

Yup. 200-6208 is the correct part number. Torque to 55 ft-lbs using the moly paste on the threads.

Gerhard,
Yup. Hewland Mk-7 six speed.

Dave,
I agree they do look much different than the Dunlops and Avons. The edges of the tread pattern are much "squarer". The tires may look taller but they are actually shorter (smaller...
My last set of Avons lasted 40-45 heat cycles then they fell off a cliff. My Hoosiers lasted 55-60 heat cycles in 2016. I like the Hoosiers the best out of the three (Dunlops, Avons & Hoosiers).

Maybe it was a LeGrand MKII H Modified? They used Saab engines.

Brian,
I think you are right, the car should be OK in the trailer even without heat at 30 deg. F overnight but now that I know there is electric available heat is not an issue.
Cheers, Joe
Perfect. Thanks Doug.
I just checked the Danville VA weather. It looks like we will have 30 deg F overnight on Friday. I think I may have to add a little antifreeze to the Crossle.
Does anyone know if there is...
