And a related question, are most PFM's at or near their ~1320 min weight with a medium size driver? (e.g. the car is around 1100-1150# ready to race but without a driver)
-Jake
Hi Mike,
Thank you for the reply :)
To be clear, is that engine only, or engine and gearbox?
e.g. engine + gearbox = ~380-400#?
or
Was curious to see if anybody knows - what is the weight of the engine and gearbox of the Pro FM?
I think I've found docs saying the gearbox is in the 100# range, was curious what the fully...
Hoping to make this also after seeing Jeff's invite :)
-Jake
So I'm curious, ~7 months in to the 2020 season now - have any former FB drivers built the more-or-less unlimited 1000cc engines now allowed in FA?
Seems like mostly potentially a return to the...
Get your cars to Colorado! You, Jose x2, me, Jeff Keacher with Gary's old Phoenix, Arax, a few Speads, Mike Holland at Hallett, there's critical mass to have some cars to zoom around and play with...
Aren't all of the newer 2017-2019 Kawi and Suzuki engines already in cars and being used with success at this point? From having talked to George and others on the west coast, seems like this isn't...
Also, feel free to call Nicholas Belling with XLR8, I think he does most (all?) of the north american geartronics importing and service. He's been very helpful as I've gotten my Geartronics stuff...
Hey all,
Thought I'd post up that the 2020 schedule for the FRP / North Am F1000 schedule is posted.
Who's in?
:greenflag:
Road Atlanta - April 10-12
Barber - May 15-17
Jeremy,
Agreed, actually. I'm on the fence about the tunnels thing, then figured "well, when negotiating, ask for more than you want..." ;-)
As to John's question for who would actually...
Cope, I think you're right, actually. I agree that it makes more sense to bring the Atlantics back, since there's no more of them being built. The F1000/ProFM level (although we're faster than the...
I'd be curious to know why that's the case? I bought two Kawi motors back in 2013 for about $4000. Aside from a freak failure that Coop had (bolt backed out of the transmission), both are still...
Daryl,
P1. Nowhere did I mention P2.
P2's are significantly slower than F1000's as it stands.
-Jake
Following up on this, it is my understanding that the CRB has gotten its recommendations from the F/SRAC, and will be chatting about them today or tomorrow in Kansas, so there will be clarity one way...
At this point we've completely hijacked LMPDesigner's thread (sorry!), but for anybody who wants to see (FA and F1000 alike) here's the complete letter I wrote.
Feel free to copy / edit /...
Greg, sent you an email...
Anybody else who's got a stake in F1000 in SCCA, drop me a line, be happy to provide a template for some (I feel) sound arguments for what they should allow.
-Jake
I wrote nearly exactly that to the CRB several months ago, with supporting evidence in terms of laptimes, and even some in-car video.
So, depending on your faith in SCCA's process...yes or no...
...
Gary,
Your proposal almost 100% matches what I sent to the CRB.
-Jake
Gary,
I *knew* you couldn't stay away!
Congrats on your short-lived retirement :)
-Jake
You're not helping! :ha::beer::thumbsup:

LMPDesigner,
If you're anywhere east of the Mississippi, the Formula Race Promotions (FRP) series is a total no-brainer. F1000's with the original ruleset, great tracks, and decent enough car...
Seems to handle it well enough. I never changed anything going from CO to Road America or out west to CA. I always just had whatever tune GDRE put in there. There is a MAP sensor, so it knows...
Hey, maybe some open-wheel racing is coming back to Colorado!
Jeff / Teuobk - happy to provide help and assistance if you need any getting used to your new car. Gary is one of the...
Get to know your local FSAE teams. Cost to Jake for all that was precisely $0.00 :). And, it was fascinating to see and learn about.
Go CSU Rams! :tire::beer:
-Jake
Definitely wrong.
High 14x range at VIR.
I think Coop said he say high 16x range at Daytona, but that was trimmed out as much as possibly could be.
-Jake
Over the years, I've found it problematic to try and torque it to some number and/or use red loctite - have had to cut front sprockets off that way.
A much easier solution is to zip it on "snug"...
another: “Jay Altaman” is actually John LaBrie, and he sold his Phoenix, not sure who to.
J
Also, Gary Hickman drives a Phoenix these days, I think he may have retired his own Edge car.
John Spranger Stohr CO
Rob Adams Speads CO
Christopher Ash Speads CO
Doug Cox Stohr CO
Robert Schader Astra CO
Alan Clarinvale Astra (Builder)
David Burkett Firman TX
Steve Ott Astra TX...
Question...
P1 already has spec lines varying from 1000# to 1475#, in tube-frame WF-1's vs composite tub DP02, 016 conversions, and Normas. Why is that exact same range OK for them and not for...
FWIW, the 3” belt recommendation is apparently outdated information.
Schroth has more info on the topic, but evidently research continues. Something to do with how the belts interacted with the...
Jay,
yes JRO and Roggenbuck sister cars have Geartronics
got mine used :D
Jake
My observations/questions, having been mostly sidelined for the past 4-5 years. I'm finally in a position where I'll be able to go and race my Stohr again this year, and I can't wait. Having been...
Agree 100%, it's what I've used in all my Stohrs. I just had to get new belts for my car this past spring. Belt material is nicer/smoother than many alternatives, as are the adjusters.
Give them...
Courtney,
You may want to clarify - the links you sent appear to be clutch slave cylinders - do you have an 05-06 Suzuki engine? All the 07-08 Suzukis have built-in hydraulic slave cylinders.
...
Anybody? Bueller?
Jeremy,
Current plan is that I'm only going to run the test day that Friday. Several dominoes have fallen the wrong direction this summer, but I couldn't leave without at least getting to see the...
Heya Gary,
Bought a used one. Coop and I installed it for VIR back in March but the pneumatics are goobered up and it kept draining the bottle after about 2 laps. Can't really debug it from 3000...
It's possible that I was a bit more aggressive than the FA's at the start, and in a straight line, yeah, the F1000 is a LOT faster than the Radicals.
Gearing was Daytona-like since the front...
Hi Guys,
Pretty quiet in here, so I thought I'd post up a video from this past weekend at Mont-Tremblant. A friend of mine has been storing the car in Ottawa, and I'd planned to do some Canadian...
subscribing because it's interesting :)
-Jake
Had an additional thought - Gary and others that have run your FB with FA's (and beaten them) - what's your observation on the relative strength of the cars?
The few races I've run with them,...
Misc responses:
* I'm in the "let us go play in FA" camp. I just ran over last weekend at Mont-Tremblant, and spent the weekend hassling some not-so-well driven 014 and 016 FA's on bad gearing,...
Gary,
Thanks for the notes.
Don't suppose anybody has in-car video they're willing to share?
-Jake
Awesome guys, thanks. I always forget about Race Hero.
-J
Out of the 900 places to check for results, I couldn't find the right one.
Anybody have results, rumors, or lies to share about the results from the Sonoma major?
-Jake
Congrats Arax, it's a special feeling knowing your own car in and out - I did the exact same with my Radical Prosport and my Stohr WF-1.
Like you, both times I ended up spending more than if I'd...
Charley,
XNR imports a few cars here in Denver, they'll have a bit more info on a handful of cars:
https://www.xnrracing.com/
You do realize there are over 1500 Radical SR3's alone, right?...
Doesn't look like I'll make Calabogie (CMP). Not enough time, too much $, had to choose 2 of the 3.
