I would point out that one of the reasons that some outsiders are interested in joining CM, is that the cars are so fast. This would not be the case on a street radial. Just something to factor in...
Or if the order had not been placed early by R&S.... I would have ordered at least one pair and a local guy who is considering buying my car tried to order another. Again, R&S didn't respond....
Hey Ben, great data. Perhaps we have to do an all or nothing just based on that. Thanks.
Jason
I disagree with just this part. IF we allow the 6", I believe you will need the 6". Sure you can run the 5.5 like we are now, but the 6" will be a noticeable advantage.
Thanks,
Jason
R110
They do make it in a few sizes -- those for EM for example. And whenever I talk to the engineers I know at Akron, one of the biggest issues is their limited production capacity for race...
Having road raced on both the RA1 and 888, they generate very little grip even when fully warmed up. I cannot imagine autocrossing on those in my CM car.... If we do go down the spec tire road, I...
Ah, totally understand. Just wanted to make sure I was clear with what I was saying about the 5.5 vs 6.
Thanks B17.
Jason
I was NEVER referring to the track change, but was referring to the tire shape / pressure / contact patch etc. Do I believe this necessitates a significant spring rate change? No. Do I think it...
Pretty sure if you allow the 6" front, we'll all need to switch to it...
Like I said earlier, I believe many (most?) of us are already on the FC front... I have been for years at any rate.
Jason
Hey Ben, thanks a ton for doing the testing. I'm surprised that the R20 FC rear on the 8" isn't faster than the R60 cantilever. Very interesting.
Also not on FB.
I would suggest that if #2...
FINALLY got a call back. Well they placed the order Monday.... So I'm SOL. Let me know if anyone has an extra pair they don't need.
BTW, they're claiming that Hoosier would only build 60 or...
3 more VM and 2 more emails.... Nothing.... Seriously not impressed....
Thanks Chris. That's the phone number I've left 5+ voice mails.... I used the sales@ email off their website so I'll try Sonya@
Jason
I've been trying to place my order for the past few days. I've called and emailed several times without response of any kind. Did you guys get a response or just place the order via the website and...
OK, thanks. R&S may want to update their website to clarify for anyone else who goes to order and is confused ;)
Thanks,
Jason
Are they making them in the R20 compound? I only see R25 listed on the R&S website. Is this one of those "you have to call" things?
Thanks,
Jason
Was there a balance change as well as the sliding? If not, then it may just be surface, as I've noticed that usually as a set of Hoosiers goes off, there is a balance change that goes along with...
No sweat. Interesting then as this was a set of Panasports.... Will try the experiment again with the Keizer's for the new car.
Thanks for clarifying Neil.
Jason
Yeah, they have a safety bead, its a BITCH to get the rears mounted...
I was only pointing out that the harder RR compounds that Neil often autocrossed on may not have generated enough lateral...
Hey Neil,
After looking at pressures, temps etc, I tried lower front pressures, and we started rolling the tire off the rim. So careful everyone about how low you can go with your rim / bead seat...
Hey Dan,
Thanks. It was the "external" part that was of concern. Yeah, the Bosch distributors are almost identical, other than the points / hall effect plate. If only the Kent dist was a little...
Hey guys,
I'm looking at this part of the GCR:
The ignition timing may only be varied by vacuum and/or mechanical
means. It is prohibited to use any other method or component to trigger,...
It looks like it will work, but some machining will still need to be done. Trying to figure out if its easier to adapt the whole dist to the Kent, or just the rotor shaft and hall effects sensor...
Yeah, after killing at least 5 Pertronics modules, and one of their rev limit boxes, I'm done with them. They clearly do not make a quality product. The quest to eliminate them as a source of...
Uh, apparently Apexspeed stripped out all the images. Are there size limits or something? Those I posted were trimmed down to ~100K
Thanks,
Jason
So here are a few photos to hopefully clarify. This is the Volvo dist with the cap and rotor removed:
...
Hey Dan,
After killing another pertronix module this past event, I decided to purchase one of the Volvo distributors you mentioned. It really looks promising. The upper housing and upper shafts...
Hey Barry, thanks. Its been fun learning to drive a formula car....
Yeah, the there certainly will be. Its a question of looking at everything to see if its worth while. I didn't want to embark...
Hey Jim,
Thanks for the clarification / background. I'm not really looking to radically modify, but when I went looking to see what was permissible, it seemed like things were more wide open than...
So do you see the issue? As far as the GCR is concerned, A arm length is completely free.... Right?
Several cars had "updates" throughout their RR lifespan to change the front and/or rear...
Hey Chris,
Thanks for the response. That's the way I read the rule book as well. It just seems to defeat the purpose of the named constructors if any competitor can rebuild the car to fit autox...
Hey guys,
I'm wondering where the "line" is with CM modifications. The CM rules have a listed of named manufacturers that are eligible so that there are no autox specific CM cars. BUT, it...
