I still think a D-13 based FST car would be one of the best looking cars out there! A shame it won't be mine! lol
Ah well
If you do it Mark make sure to post lots of pics of your progress
...
I personally think that's one of the most alluring things about FST. If you have the $ to spend you can get a nice new purpose built car, but if not, it's possible to put together a top notch car...
Very cool Michael!
Good weather and unlimited crew and spectators - CA sucks! lol
From what I've heard locally, it's a function of the tracks trying to suck every last dollar out of the Regions and the drivers....
That's what I've been saying too
HUH? Why drag me into this! I'm not an Admin. :ha:
And my rates aren't that bad by the way - I probably have to bill (and collect) close to 2 hours just to pay for one overpriced regional entry...
If you look back a few posts I referenced something that apparently was attempted a few years back but never took off. I did however stumble over this over the weekend -
...
Not really much of a "how to win friends and influence people" kind of guy are you Brian?
I'm not sure how "this is how the majority feel" and "counter the apathy" fit in the same sentence. If...
You mean except FST, F5, F6, and possibly even CFF?
Frankly, I think anyone seriously "dreaming of driving an F1 car" is not looking at any of the above. But if you mean those younger people who...
Hmmm. Might have to take a ride to Chicago! Very cool how many cars do you expect?
co-admins Bill - don't get power hungry lol. Chris and I are still admins too. :D
too late - already did it! lol But I can make Lance one too - primary job - "allow" new members when they request
Bob
Just added two new members today as a matter of fact!
Bill - should I make you an Admin on this. Chris Satterly started the group and made me an Admin since he's not as active in FST as he...
Bill - I would assume that power will be available since it's at a dealership, but I'll bring my generator (3500 watt peak power - should do the job) just in case.
Please see this point http://www.apexspeed.com/forums/showthread.php?p=332468#post332468 regarding BugFest 2012 in Milwaukee.
Thanks
Bob
Posted this at FormulaVee.org as well.
June 9th there is a bug VW show in Milwaukee (BugFest at Concours Motors).
I think it would be great to get a group of FV/FST cars out there for a ...
right - I meant we'd have a "separate group" but it would be a split start. I agree we wouldn't get our own run-group. My point was that at RA a split start is nearly as good. IMHO
Jeff:
I can pretty much assure you that if we came with 15+ FV/FST cars at the Kettle we would have our own run-group, but with a split start. Given the size of RA, realistically, we wouldn't see...
I'm planning to run the Kettle
Great idea
I can only speak for me. My change was driven by two things:
1) I had a TERRIBLE year financially last year and decided to put the car up for sale. Ultimately, the proverbial "offer I couldn't...
mine in the mail
I just learned that Volksfest in milwakee will be June 9th which appears not to conflict with any races. I think if we could get 5-6 FV and FST cars out there it might be a good opportunity. Anyone...
Here in Milwaukee every spring there is a big VW show at a local dealership. A couple years ago I tried to drum up interest from local FV/FST guys to get a display of cars but got no takers. IF...
Since there has been a lot of gnashing of teeth (possibly misinformation) in the FV section about how much it will cost to convert cars to FST and the "lost value" of parts inventory. I'm writing...
Not really an optimist are you? :D
I started a thread on this very topic yesterday
http://www.apexspeed.com/forums/showthread.php?t=50139
ok thanks - that helps - did want to put out a WAG but with that info I can estimate pretty good
Since I have a new (to me) car for 2012 and have no idea what the weight will be, I'm going to abstain from responding but I think this is a great start Matt! Thanks. FWIW - I'd take an increase in...
Not a silly idea at all - I think that's exactly what should be happening. probably a topic for another thread though
That certainly seems to be the general opinion on this thread. I wonder though if the title is wrong - too broad. Overall there seems to be concensus that what FV NEEDS is to retain drivers and...
Not the place for the discussion (don't want to take the thread off-course) but IMHO you're 100% right. If the BOD adopts the F600 Rules proposal that is currently pending, I think we can all assume...
I love that! Are they still powered by the air cooled motor? Tell us more Bill!
They do sound darn good Jim!
Very interesting. I've been watching this and know you guys have been working hard to get here. Good luck with BOD. I hope to get to see some of these run in cen-div this coming season.
Bob
Lurking FV guy trying to learn. Does this mean that F600 will be going down the "conversion" road as well as new designs (ala FST)? What regions/divisions will have the F600 regional class?
First don't get ahead of me. Lol. 2013 is a possibility, 2012 I'm in FV. Second Why is this in the international section?
It's a 100% WAG but I would venture that if you asked a group of HS/College age guys you'd get a similar response - especially if it was THEIR money that was being spent.
Thanks for posting that -...
Clearly that's the chicken and egg problem. Frankly, it's one reason I'm back in FV for 2012. Beyond that - too soon to tell.
I want to state again what Bill and Jim have been saying - I don't...
Well he wasn't a middle aged fat guy on a budget now was he? :ha::ha::ha::ha:
Doug is 100% right, but it's a lot harder to "total" an FV/FST than a CF/FF - an entire new front beam on an FV/FST is less costly than one corner on the others. I'm also pretty sure the FV...
No flames - cluib ford looks like a fun class. But don't discount FST - similar tire rules/costs and MUCH lower costs of upkeep and crash damage repair.
Good luck with whatever you do!
Bob
With all due respect, I think this is the wrong attitude. Yes, his budget is still a little light, but look at what we've got - a 16 year old how has managed to accumulate $4K!!! toward a racecar. ...
To the OP - I envy you being able to get started at such a young age. I'm MUCH older but relatively new to road racing.
Based on the information you've provided, it would seem that budget is the...
Actually I think it's a FST Slider. But I suppose it could go back to Vee as well.
Well, I was going to order pizza for dinner but apparently CROW is on the menu. damit.
I think that's what I've been saying too - more or less. I'd like to see the Committee jump in here.
FWIW I plan to maintain my membership in FFDA and would be happy to work within the FV community to do this (assuming "this" is trying to coordinate efforts)- at least in Cen-Div.
Very good points Robert. It's not even racing season yet and already I think I miss the cooperation and camaradire of FST
and off topic - I apologize in advance for what our Packers will be...
I think it's backwards - bring the cars and we will get our own run group. Which takes us back to the original question - what does FV need to do for the future. My interpretation of the question...
Like Bill, I wasn't trying to make this FST vrs FV either. But lets be honest - if we are talking about "improving" FV, then we have to give at least a passing glance to "modernization" (if that...
