I find this to be quite fasinating and a great idea, especially for those who run their cars in geographically areas that are subject to lots of heat. The nose vent is to cool the cockpit and the driver. Indycar has incorporated the 1" x 4" cutout into the cars for this weekends Houston Grand Prix series to help cool down the drivers.
Think I'll make one in my Formula S Ralt ---- NOT.
SCCA 9.1.8.A.3 P2 rules under d. Bodywork 1. b2 states:
All forward facing openings must be connected to duct(s) connected to heat exchangers or brake cooling ducts. All air entering duct must pass through heat exchangers or be used to cool brakes and must not be used to generate aerodynamic downforce or any other purpose.
Isn't a driver's body a heat exchanger? :)
