I have thick seat bottom that I plan to cut a couple pockets in to slip in some lead dive weights. I have in the past slipped some ankle weights jammed between the front of my lower seat cushion and the fire bottle.
Where you put your ballast and what do you want your weight distribution to be? Are very interrelated This is an important tuning tool!
I remember a post someone had, I think on f550.us, where they had put a brace across the bottom of cockpit with a post sticking up in the middle. They would put the weight down on the post and it had a cotter pin type of connector to hold it in place. They had pictures of the install and it was pretty slick. I just looked on f500.us and couldn’t find the post. Perhaps this will jog someone’s memory and they can find it for you.
It's somewhat depend on the ballast material, shape and weight. I used a block of lead. Drilled a hole through it and bolted it to the belly pan.
On one of my cars I used lead weights that were 1"x1"x6" or so and built a locker for them on the floor. I think I had 5 or 6 or them and that they weighed about 2lbs each. I "tuned" the weight by replacing a lead weight with a 1x1 square aluminum dummy to take up the space. This allowed me to subtract only as much as I needed for varying weights (or scales, let's be honest). Lead weights were made by melting and pouring into a proper sized mold.
Locker was 1x1 aluminum angle bolted to the floor with a lid that screwed to nutserts.
Sure wish I needed to ADD weight these days!:ha:
