Please ID Clutch Slave Cylinder

I have a clutch slave cylinder that I am using on a conversion. I need to determine the proper spacer for it and could use some assistance from people more familiar with the parts and their application.

As disassembled, the retracted length was 2.225". I pushed it in to 2.025. That appears to indicate there was a .200" gap between the clutch fingers and cylinder surface at maximum retraction.

So .....
Can anyone ID the slave cylinder assembly?
Can anyone advise on the maximum extension (travel/stroke)?
Can someone advise on the appropriate gap to design in as I build a spacer to locate it?

SAAB 900 clutch slave

It looks like a SAAB 900 slave as used on my Citation Zetec, and matches Pegasus' description of the SAAB 900 fluid ports. It appears to be missing the plastic dirt shield that is held on by the clip ring you see in my photo.

You could probably measure the usable travel yourself - push the piston all the way in and then pull it out until you can barely see the piston outer seal. That will give you the max & min length. Then use your judgement to subtract some for a safety factor.

I'll have mine apart, maybe even today, to do my annual seal replacement. I measured the stroke - see later post.

As a word of caution, slave seal o-rings as sold on the web have, IMO, a bad quality record - wrong compound cure, divots in the o-rings themselves, etc.

Saab 9000

I was able to get the rebuild seals from Pegasus for my Saab 9000 unit, you have to search a little on the site to find it as not listed as a FC part. But it was the only one they had in stock at the time. Maybe they have restocked since then. Someone told me you can get the seals from Advanced Auto - but I have not tried.

I measured the dimensions from the rear seating surface with the bolt holes to the contact surface on the TO bearing. Those are fully extended until you can just see the outer o-ring, and fully retracted until the piston hits the rear closure.

Extended: 2.88"
Retracted: 2.04"

There is a link on the page that will take you to the Saab 9000 seals. Used on Ralt's, etc. Oh and Bowmans

The 0.200 you were able to retract it after the position you got it with sounds like the high end of the gap I'd design into your installation. That would leave a little over 1/2" of stroke available, which would be more than you need and still leave room to compensate for disk wear. I'd aim for about 3/16" gap. That, IMO, should be a safe number.

Thanks Dave. Those were similar values to what I have been thinking. Its been about a decade since I did this last, with about a dozen cars and a lot of races in between, so my memory was hazy.
