Just saw the prelim schedule for SVRA at Mid Ohio and noticed a strange grouping: "Groups 2, Formula Develop".
Anyone know what Formual Develop means? Group 2 is non-winged formula cars, ie. Fords, Formula B, etc.

If I had to guess, it's the development class of the F4 Series that was announced late last year.
Just be careful. I used to love that event. I’m done with SVRA at this point. That could change but I doubt it in the near future.
I just spoke with Rob Elson at SVRA, the new technical director. He tells me that the Formula Development cars are F4 cars with new kids at the wheel. (These are not the same drivers in the SVRA F4 group who are more developed. There is a separate group dedicated for them.) The Formula Development drivers are getting early experience here. Rob tells me that Scott Goodyear provides some direction to this group. Not sure of the details.
Rob was not sure how many will be at Mid Ohio. But, in a previous weekend, he says there were only two or three of these drivers in the field. I'm OK with a couple of drivers on the track. I just don't want to be in the middle of a large field of F4s.
How’d it go?
There were about 15 entrants in Group 2. Three FBs, 11 FFs and only one F4 (Formula Development). I estimate the F4 driver to be about 16 years old. The kid was quick and well mannered on track. No issues whatsoever. All drivers gave him a thumbs up. He lapped a good bit of the field and there were no issues passing.
All-in-all, it was a non-issue. I would do it again.
how did the "Closed Wheel cars" work out in Group 2 ?
The stream is still up on the SVRA YouTube channel. The kid may have had a superior car but he also drove the wheels off the thing in what looked like pretty slippery conditions. The cameras well captured the dice at the front but there looked to be some just as good further back (they did show Linton & Madrid into Madness).
