coolant plug? Why

Hello All,

I have a question about a coolant plug in the front of the engine, so if your looking to the front of the engine and near the left front head bolt came with a threaded plug that went into the blocks water jacket? Does anyone know why this is here or does it need it. On a side note the head had rusty water/coolant were the block did not? Not sure why, working on pic's.

I've seen plenty of water temp sensors mounted in that location.

Ben, do you mean the 1/8" NPT just below the thermostat housing? That's where Ford put the original temperature switch and where most of us put the temp sender.

Is this plug in the side of the head or in the front of the block?
